Ah, yeah. I think you’re right, the apes give even more XP than the gorillas.

Yep, according to the Wiki it’s the grey apes that give higher XP by almost 4000 (12600 vs 16200). Both are easy to kill and found together in the same general area so Atoma can just smash 'em both. Also worth it to skin 'em for useful resources.

I also agree that it’s better not to power level the first time through. After the first playthrough, sure, but not the first time. Enjoy the journey, it’s what CE is really all about.

The apes in the jungle are OK for leveling, but are a long ways from anywhere if you aren’t on a server with a map room/teleporter network set up.

Generally, undead give the most experience for the effort. The undead hyenas around the sinkhole and the skeletons just to the east for starters. Then move up to the skeletons outside the Warmaker’s dungeon. Later the Unnamed City, inside Warmaker’s and the wights around the mounds.

Rocknoses give less experience but with a 2hd hammer or mace die very quickly.

Thanks all of you for your advice about leveling up.I did face the undead hyenas last weekend. I died a few times there.

I am now level 35 and I am hunting for a couple of thralls before I get deeper into the map.

I am looking for a bearer thrall. The thing about this thrall is they can carry a lot of materials. So I want to grind and farm a lot of Iron before i build a new place to settle. I already have steel weapons. However, i can’t find a bearer thrall yet. They seem to be very rare

I am also looking for a level 4 fighter thrall. Once I get one Ill go to that place and level up. At least this is my game plan now.

But they fight much better. It’s a new player, with poor gear. He doesn’t know his way around and might get in trouble. Apes are safer.
