A question for those who know how and love to build well-considered buildings.
-
Sometimes it is necessary to lay the foundations exactly along a certain imaginary line - from one point of the terrain to another, from one stone to another, from one point of a bridge to another, etc. You lay the first foundation - it seems exactly, you start laying the next ones - and the line will definitely go in one direction or the other. We need a mod that would draw a line on the ground and allow you to lay a foundation along it. Does anyone know of such a mod?
-
And the second question. Maybe someone knows a mod that helps to determine the highest place on any part of the terrain. It would help a lot to start laying the foundations from this place, and not waste extra resources.
Thanks in advance for the replies.

Iāve just seen one like that and it looked fun
Havenāt tried it though, but I might eventually
(You can ofc always do similar tricks just by building in a line and then picking up the in-between pieces
you get the added benefit of your building being one unit)
Anyway, hereās the mod I was talking about, seems kinda like the RP way of doing construction work:

Yes, with lines, this is exactly what I was looking for! Although ⦠we must try, as I see it, their length does not exceed the length of the foundation. I spoke about the possibility of drawing much longer lines.

I downloaded this mod, looked. The longest line there is double, two foundations long. In principle, not bad, better than one foundation. But it wonāt help me quickly draw a line over long distances.
For example, I need to build foundations on this ledge exactly along this line between two extreme points:

Unfortunately, I will have to make up to 10-15 attempts, and still it is far from a fact that I will succeed. To do this in one go, I need to ātighten the ropeā over the entire length at once, and I need to be able to do this over any distance.

can you not simply snap multiple ones together to extend it? thatās what I was getting based on the description

I can successively add one to the other. And sooner or later they will go wrong. In order for them to go smoothly, I need to put the first one perfectly even. Itās practically impossible.
I will try to explain very simply. Choose two far-growing thin trees on the plain at a distance of about 15 foundations, connect them with an imaginary line and try to put foundations between them along this line so that they do not deviate from it, and so that both the first and last touch the trees. You simply cannot do it.

Iām just saying what I read in the mod description
also, you can do that with some low level engineering
look into those 2 trees so they line up and put a third point not too far from the tree near you so it lines up with the other two⦠then you can just use your short line to connect your tree and your new point⦠and extend the line from there

I canāt do anything, unfortunately. And you have nothing, even if you have a perfect eye. Unless after many approaches. Just try.

Here you go
this is what I was talking about⦠you donāt need anything special
(FYI Iām in a middle of a workout with shaky hands and Iāve never done this before and you see me doing it live
so if I can do this without anything special while not even being a builder, Iām sure youāll have no trouble with a bit more time)

Fantastic! You really have a perfect eye. Taking off my hat.

If by that you mean I can barely see
didnāt even put my glasses on hahaā¦
Itās really not an eye thing when you do it like this⦠you just have to line up points
Try it and see if you manage, itās even easier with the longer lines from that mod as I only had a fence foundation so had to put the banner I used as a marker fairly close.
Basically you want to stand up to your first point⦠center that on the actual screen in 1st person (you can use the build icon in the middle to line it up), then place the new one directly behind so it blocks out the distant point and the 3 of them line up
Lemme know how it went!

Agree. With a pole it is really much easier.
As someone who plays on console, this makes me pretty sad that it can only be a mod. I have wished such things existed in the base game for some time now, especially the lines when you wanna pinpoint a specific build location and starting point.

The method in the video posted uses basegame pieces though as I donāt have the mod installed
But yea, with the mod it would be way easier especially with that long 2 foundation mason line. Though it looks neat so Iāll probably install it on my server soon
Yeah⦠thatās nothing like what I was looking for actually. Sorry. I was actually referring to grids and stuff you can turn off and on, particularly when recreating from builds on co-op to official.

Ah, you want the super-high-tech version
Construction lasers hehe. Not a bad idea.

Exactly. When recreating from a previous design, sometimes the alignment is slightly off and youāre stuck modifying your original design. Itās kind of a bummer.
Iām fortunate enough to have a ābrokenā TV. On my screen the exact center vertical row of pixels is burned out so I have this perfect black line in the dead center of my TV
I can line up foundations better than the most experienced builders in this game.
