How do special events and rewards work?

Hi, newbie here. I bought the game and play sometimes on GeForceNow servers. I would like to start up again to play during the current event and earn the rewards, but how do they work? Are they just placeable or will I learn to craft them? Either way, do they attach to my account so I can use them later?

As of right now, the drops from the event chest is the only way to obtain these items for right now. The developers have said there will possibly be a way to obtain these same items in the future, yet they did not say how or when.
