Accalia on ship you are supposed to ballista her but it d/n work. She gets big and 1 shots me.
Levers along walls she interrupts and 1 shots me.
How does one beat her? I used to a decade+ ago, but no idea how, now.

Make sure you enabled all particles to see her area of effect.
Run away when she casts “Abhor the weak”.When she runs into the middle to buff up, use the ballista on her. This prevents her buffing up.
Dps her hard when she is stunned, or when she is unbuffed. Kite her inbetween.
Haven’t done that in a while, but this is what I remember.
Thx again, for this and the ape advice. Seems like you are the only one here other than me. lol.
Ballista I have used but she still manages to get big and nvr come dn from it (once she’s big it seems to last forever; will need to se if can spot a buff duration to maybe outlast it), she chunks like 60% if she hits (she completely misses a LOT, tho, if I am running, thankfully; either her aim REALLY sucks or my evade is just that good) and she eventually 1 shots me if my hp weren’t at or near max.
I saw a vid where releasing the prisoners seemed to keep her small, but she interrupts and 1shots me if I try to release them, even when she’s small: she uses the execution strike she ends the first fight in the jungle with, and it’s reload time. Maybe just need to find her pattern. I have got her to maybe as low as 40%, but only rarely. Might go back to n00b spec, but want to beat her properly.
BTW particles are all up. I set everything to max except resolution. LOL.
EDIT: retried. Ballistas are supp to do what, exactly? They d/n seem to stun her. Maybe once they did? That was the time I got her to around 40%.
I cannot catch her at the right time, maybe? She runs before I can get to ballista, and tho I sometimes tag her during anim, usually can’t activate it b4 she pops w/e that burst of hers is.
Checked her buffs, and when she gets big, it is 3min duration, and fight is over inside 1 minute at that point, as she will 100->0 my hp then w/one move (assuming the execute, tho it seems more like a casual backhand swat anim she drops me with, not a wind-up). I sometimes get chunked for 70% and then drop after even when she’s small; guessing she puts a DOT on me, or catches me w/a second swat I d/n notice, after (logs say it’s Crowning Blow).
Even n00b spec d/n work: DWW barely scratches her. It looks like she’s actually immune to Miasma: Soul Strike, too, as Essence Detonation either nvr goes off on her or does no dmg (can’t always watch her to see, as have to run when she chunks me to 20%). She also seems to take little or no dmg from my DoTs (her %s stay the same unless I am directly hitting her), or be slowed by the combo effects. It looks like they decided to totally just make her outright immune to a Sin’s entire arsenal, with zero compensation. Nice.
Anyway, will keep at it. Thx.
RE-EDIT:
Yeah, even when small, she hit me for abt 55% of my hp in 1 shot when I tried to combo her, after barely scratching her with multiple hits (got her to 72%, and it looks like Lotus Dart might actually have done some of that, so it’s not entirely useless vs her, after all). I see the Miasma on her but it has no actual effect as she apparently just outright DELETES the detonation, as I watched vid I made and she has the smoke but it nvr blows up, only just fades away. So yeah, FC seems to have decided Sins don’t get their keystone abilities to use on her. Combos seem to do abt 3% dmg to her, each. I take it back abt DWW: it did a whopping 6%. Either ballista d/n stun, or the window for it is too small for me to catch her in.
IDK. Will keep at it, but blowing through Daggamalt full crates on these bosses and not able to get them dn.
quick question : what is your hit rating ?
Hit bonus chance is 474 (13%)
Combat Damage Increase rating is 7948, which gives Effect of 217.
DPS is 441.2.
Armor rating 3035 which is 13.8% mitigation. Sins ofc have terribad armor.
Health 5715.
IIRC solo normal I got her dn to maybe 40%.
Unchained (for the RTs) lowest I think was 72% or maybe just under. Even her unbuffed combo hits took 50% hp (tho she misses a LOT or usually only does tiny white-hit dmg when I run to let healpot work).
I suspect issue is I am probably unable to time ballistas, which multiple sources say is key to slowing her buffs dn (even tho she combos hard w/o them). I also tried releasing prisoners on side vs levers, as one vid did, but even if am not interrupted at it, they stay put.
TY for your time in looking at this, BTW.
OK, so using Avatar of Death at just the right time, recognizing the ballistas fire only once each, and gearing up a tiny bit more, was finally able to barely beat her, w/multiple tries per go.
Was also able to use AoD to beat Drostan/rats. Vaya was already previously possible, as she is the easiest, by far.
Not having AoD up (as had been trying to avoid using n00b spec) was the main issue. W/o it, it just d/n work.
Now, the only Rare Trophy boss I still can’t beat is the ape on Iron Statues isle, as he still burns me dn too fast, but that’s another post.
FYI PS
Found once again that sometimes the ballistae just don’t work. Gear symbol appears but click does nothing. Accalia gets big and you auto-lose.
As suspected, just a badly coded game, as it always was.
Yes, the tactics remain the same, and you can beat her if it all works properly, but sometimes the game just d/n work. Always been a problem in AoC, no matter what PC or ISP I used.
Just FYI.
never had the issue, so maybe there may be something wrong on your side.
Apologies, Cappa, but that is an uninformed answer.
Just because YOU believe you haven’t had it happen to you is no cause to reflexively dismiss it.
Not only did I sit here and watch the game repeatedly refuse to apply calmly applied clicks with **plenty of time given them to apply,** and with no indication of lag, this is, overall, a common factor w/AoC on multiple PCs on multiple ISPs over a 16 year period. I have outright objectively experimented in the past and seen the game simply refuse to do things as basic as register a potion as being used, when none had been used any time recently (so no CDs), there was no lag indicator on the hotbar, and I was just standing there in Tesso, not under fire, trying to activate it first from the hotbar, and then straight from inventory.
AoC has always been buggy af, over 3 different PCs and 3 different ISPs.
I have done endless file fixes, yet seen clicks often just refuse to register (even w/no lag and when not under duress), enemies turn green once dead and keep fighting w/o any chance of killing them, getting stuck in a wall mid-combat vs a ranged mob and have to die to get unstuck, being unable to come dn out of combat despite no foes being left in the playfield and no debuffs ticking dn (my Necro can sometimes be stuck in combat for hours, over multiple playfields, requiring multiple clicks to converse w/NPCs), mobs not spawn their avatars, so be untargetable (but they can still hit me), quest items refuse to spawn in inventory (resulting in failure/death), mail not letting me take items I sent between my characters (or just having the items outright disappearing) due to weird inventory bugs, flat-out server DCs despite all other connections working 100% up to speed on my end…
AoC is, and always has been a bugfest (especially since they consolidated servers. I suspect a lot of it may be it’s a EU server contacted from a US client: despite only 1 green dot in the latency bar most times, it is possible bursts of failures due to the many hops may be a factor, and the game does often go full red on me, tho bugs happen at seeming zero lag, too, and while the mobs continue to act, whereas a red lag indicator usually totally freezes even NPCs/mobs). I love the game, but it was ever poorly implemented, and now it is apparently not even maintained other than to prop the servers up. It still runs the same damn application failure box for most ppl at every app launch, since like 2015. They can’t even do server transfers (and Fury is mostly dead). Again, I run file fixes all the time, and that sometimes helps matters, but it d/n fix everything, and it should not be failing as often as it does, for a game that ppl are still paying subscription and/or unlock fees to. Hell, I just gave them $100 USD, as I intend to stay back and improve my skills, but FC only let things get worse, in the last decade.
And again, dismissing it out of hand, because you believe you nvr had any issues (but may have just not noticed) is not a convincing or sound argument. It has happened, on multiple machines over multiple ISPs, and with slow, calm, careful analysis applied in several cases where I just wanted to see how badly frakked the game was, so kept trying til it either finally worked MINUTES OR HOURS later, or just outright failed til I reloaded the game entirely. Facts are facts.
Just a few of my thoughts :
“I have done endless file fixes”
that would fix your local files, wich means local file corruption.
“my Necro can sometimes be stuck in combat for hours”
there is a magic trick any time you play with pets: kill the pets and you are not in combat any more ![]()
“AoC is, and always has been a bugfest”
I honestly do not think it is buggier than many other games. Maybe i just leant to deal with it ? Or just been unlucky with some other titles ?
"I suspect a lot of it may be it’s a EU server contacted from a US client: "
An other surprise for you : the servers for Age of Conan are in Newark, New Jersey, United States of America.
As for what I meant without targetting you directly, I meant that you are probably doing something in a “sub-optimal manner” because most people never needed gold potions for the Ardashir dungeons ( the monkey island or the pirates island ) that are not very hard, even in Unchained mode.
File fixes are usually just an attempt to see if SOMETHING can fix extant issues, w/o flagging from the game occurring as triggers: they are not rly indicative of the files being corrupted, but my trying anything to deal w/issues. SOMETIMES the issue goes away, but sometimes it does not, so correllation d/n even always occur, and causation is rarely if ever proven. The game does sometimes ask to check files if I had to Exit Now, so shut the game in a hurry for some reason IRL, but bugs are independent of those times, not correlated.
No other game is as buggy for me. League has occasional issues when they patch things in a major way (AoC was last major-patched when?); their introducing WASD was a major change that caused glitches where it would revert mid-game to click to move, but it seems they finally fixed that, and it was a MAJOR overhaul, so to be expected. SWTOR the only “bugs” I ever encountered were launchers that need entire delete/rebuild after major patches, and refuse to update, otherwise, and one very poor dev decision on rebuilding systems that deleted an entire aspect of crafting that I had invested time and real money into, with no compensation (not a bug, but a very poor choice of retroactively applied “feature”). Aion, the only issue was they rebuilt the face models in 5.0 and destroyed my main’s face in a way that could not be corrected under the new meshes (and, again, that’s not a bug, but a bad design choice). Return of Reckoning, despite being a fan-built server for WAR, and lacking some content, was always pretty much bug-free, from what I experienced, tho bug reports from others do exist for it. Lineage II had some bugs here and there, largely involving pathing (believe I still have pix of running above the clouds because pathing off a mountaintop continued at peak height, having not been corrected for Z axis path), IIRC, and DID have lag/rubber banding, but was mainly pretty stable.
Again, 3 PCs, 3 ISPs, and the same behaviors observed over 16 yrs.
I had read Fury was in EU. Maybe the original Fury was and they rebranded a NJ server as Fury upon consolidating. So hops are not likely the issue, and it explains why I am usually at only 1 green pip on latency, even when bugs are rampant.
Having to kill and respawn all your pets still counts as a bug. One that is how old, now? At least the pets are more likely to follow you through doors, nowadays: I remember they used to bug out and not follow or respawn even in the same playfield if having to go through an archway in a Tortage dugeon. They still do that a bit if porting into the Lost Ship on DMHand, or lvl-changing in Refuge of the Apostate, but is mostly far better than I remember from years ago.
Ardashir bosses, the issue is they just hit too damn hard t oo damn fast if an undergeared Sin not using AoD. I wanted to avoid n00b spec, but apparently it was popular for the very same reason that I worked out it was best: it was the best burst and had superior survivability than any other spec, tho it encourages poor combo timing and positioning by giving you “I win” buttons, so I had stopped using it back in the day, to limit-test and practice combos/positioning/timing. W/AoD up, I can just use Daggamalt vs the ship bosses, but the ballista flatly just not working meant I had to make 2 passes at Accalia last time, as she went big and that’s game over at that point, as she 90% to 100%s me per hit when she does. If you can survive a 100% healthbar hit, please advise how the expert AoC player survives that fight. Again, I sat there, watching the ballista do nothing after I clicked on it, despite it giving me the gear/usable icon. I gave it time to pop/show in use, but nothing. Tried again, and still nothing. Green on latency. AoC is what it is.
As to the ape boss, even Webarbarian said it is a pain. Once Heison advised that stun did work (despite it repeatedly not working for me) I retried and found it did usually work, tho sometimes flatly failed (which was why I thought it was just blocked), and beat the damned ape, despite him white-hitting at 25-30% of my healthbar per hit. “Other players” in vids sit there and take little or no dmg from multiple hits when facing the ape (so can just combo him), so that seems less a skill issue, than a gear/heatlth issue. I am not the best, as am wired to NOT respond to changes in real time (pattern analysis visualization wired, instead), but the healthbar just not going dn for others, and going away almost instantly for me, is pure gear. Once I knew stun DID (sometimes) work, despite it originally repeatedly failing when I tried, that allowed me the time to run miasma rotations on the ape and kill him. That still required a 75 silver pot, as he c/n be stunned/KBd for large chunks of the fight, due to CDs, so he will get shots in, esp as the combos take time, so he would knock me dn to 10% even w/the pot and heal pad, as he only needed 3 swipes at normal white-hit strength to do so.
meow
You know that you can’t use the same ballista twice?
@ Bill
Yes. I already mentioned that.
The problem was it didn’t work the FIRST time. First balista, first time. Hovering my cursor on it showed the “usable” gear, but clicking on it produced nothing. There was no red latency indicator on HUD.
Also, there are only 3 ballistae, and even if I can get them to work, I don’t do enough damage most passes to drop her. Sometimes I RNG and get lucky for no apparent reason, but others it takes 20x to kill her (and still barely survive) as I do piddly dmg to her, even w/full miasma rotations (and she sometimes just outright cancels Essence Detonation) and Avatar of Death, whereas she wrecks my healthbar almost immediately if I stay near her to trade hits.
She runs back to ship ctr (or randomly just does that taunt move and bursts) 5x or 6x or 7x per try, and I eventually have to back off and run away as much as possible to not just insta-die, and to let a heal pot work, as I simply run out of ballistae uses.
I flatly can’t drop her fast enough for her to not keep doing the special moves, unless I get several lucky crits or something (not even sure whatever it is that lets me occasionally beat her) and she starts single-hitting for 75% of my healthbar (or 100% of it, in some cases) once I run out of balistae.
Again, I have dropped her, sometimes, but it’s seemingly total RNG, even w/AoD up.
Drostan I can use just a Daggamalt easily now, w/AoD, so long as the rats don’t manage to outright surround me (random chance) and so long as DWW d/n miss (all too common w/DWW that it does).
Vaya, I don’t even need a heal pot or any tactics: I can just burn her dn before the wax melts, w/or w/o AoD, tho AoD makes it more certain, as w/o it she has sometimes outpaced me. Vaya is the easiest, by far, as she is less a boss, than a gimmick.
Again: I suspect the issue is my DPS, Armor, and Health are just too low to easily handle most of this stuff.
Query: what do you feel is the minimum stat lvl requirement to pull off an Accalia ship run w/o effort? IIRC (have a tombstone I can’t retrieve, so the numbers are all dn 1% atm)
My DPS is 441
Armor is 2376 for 9.9% mitigation.
Hit chance is 15.3 (IIRC that is decent bonus).
Do you feel I should be damaging her fast enough to only need 3 ballistae, w/those stats? I genuinely d/n know, but it sure feels like the answer is no.
Not sure if you can do it with these stats as a new/ returning player. Maybe you need some better gear and more experience. My 2 sins are full t4, rf rings, wb mantle, full AA. 12,5% mitigation, around 570-580 dps, 30% crit chance, 22% hit chance. Anyway this content, especially unchained mode is made for better geared, more experienced players and assassins not the easiest class for unexperienced players. Assassin is like “be quick or be dead”.
what AAs are you running with ?
also, whirlwind ? mehhh. wasting all shards for not enough damage output.
Maybe this video can help you a bit.
Avoid the “Abhor the weak” stun. And click on the ballista when she casts “Bloodthirst”.
At the first try i forgot to click the ballista, lol. At the end you can see the gear, AA, stats and skill tree (i used some old i already had and maybe not the best for this fight).
Some excuses for me
, i haven’t played my sin since a few years and this is my first youtube video.
Usually slotted in the field: Precise, Pressing (am on Fury), Liberation, Sins of the Flesh, and Castration. All except Castration (3) are maxxed. I SOMETIMES slot Master Assassin in the field, but Castration can return shards, Sins is anti-heal and one less directional for the same dmg as SS X, and I am a big fan of the “safety roll” fatality both those combos can give, so prefer them, even in PVP (and I always PVPd rarely, even back in the day, as rolled toon on Cimmeria (PVP RP) because it was Conan-stories-style PVPVE play, not because I wanted to MOBA/Mini all day, tho most of the PVP community seemed to used to want the latter 24/7, despite being on an OWPVP server).
In dungeons (or if near-zero Fury pop results in no one else in the entire region): Pressing gets swapped either for Decisive (3) or Fortifying Empowerment (2). Decisive if something needs to be burned dn fast and HP are not as important, but Fort, otherwise, as Dec only gives abt 1 or 2% advantages, while Fort gives abt 7% more HP.
I don’t slot Chromatic (4) or Elusive (3), usually. Very situational.
Not needing to be slotted:
Finely Honed, Penetrate Armor (5), Vitality (5), Invigoration (5), Nimble (3), Empowered Momentum (3), Expanded Sidestep (1), Empowered SDS (4), Empowered SS (2), Empowered GC (1), Extended Lethargy (1), Disfigure (1), Various resistances (1 or 2 ea).
For some reason I nvr got Choking Powder. IIRC it may be because I read it got nerfed to the point of being less useful in a PVP environment.
Mostly agreed abt DWW, but w/caveats. It is unreliable, shard-hogging, and can tempt you towards being a “melee caster” “1-button wonder” bad sin, by leaning you away from focusing combos, as it offers easy wins. It is great as a desperate insta-cast massive burst, tho, which can save you if hp are suddenly unexpectedly dangerously low and the enemy just won’t die from combos. Insta-cast makes a huge difference in not dying, if enemies are evading/resisting everything, as you can easily die before some combos pop, so I usu hold it for an ender if things look bad/risky.
It also (IF it hits) is THE classic-assassin-M.O. fight-ender-before-it-begins initial dmg “spell” (I refuse to consider it a combo, w/no directionals) upon first exiting stealth, esp if followed up by GB right after (even on no shards). Again, that is assuming you can get it to land; this is why I rarely use Snap Kick first, as DWW already has a rly high miss chance built in (or at least it seems so from my experience), and a knocked dn target SEEMS to increase miss chance DRASTICALLY (or at least that has been my observation) on top of that.
That said, it being unreliable means I usually leave stealth into SDS/FS or SDS/GC/FS or MSS, then SotF, and likely SK if they are not looking low, else Castration, and then SotF again if needed (w/SotF slotted, rarely use SS X/IX). I also usually double fwd for Momentum vs non-bosses. Ofc, If PVP I may do the DWW/GC/SK first, pop shard regens, and then cycle SDS/GC/etc. I certainly used to default to that when I started, but even abandoned having DWW/GS feated, for years, to force myself to improve actual skills (that spec does a lot worse vs bosses, tho).
Am 80 ofc, but in half blues, mostly Brittle Blade stuff, and T1 daggers (Song of Demise and The Gilded Grave), as I nvr raided much at all 15 yrs ago (always RPd it solo or small rare groups, like in Conan stories), and most of my AAs are still dark, tho I picked very specifically, so am not TOO bad on the AA front, I suspect. I believe the gear is a large part of the problem. Sadly, the whole point of RT instances is the RTs for better gear. . .
A little trick if the boss you get on the ship is too hard (Accalia or Drostan), let them kill you, return to Ardashir and come back to the ship, you might get Vayaspara. You don’t have to do the whole instance again, only the ship.
