After a few months away from the game, just to breath fresh air, touch the ground and get a grip of reality (as well as giving my head a wobble), I’ve decided to give Conan Exiles another go, but…
Modded games no longer show in the server lists. After clicking several buttons (by the way, what on earth has happened to the G.U.I..? - It’s horrible), I finally found that in order for modded servers to show I had to click ALL 4 boxes on a separate page and trawl through 1000’s of servers, both private and invalid, just to find servers with mods. Eventually, once I found a mod I fancied playing, after several attempts (what’s with this 1% game freeze), I eventually get to the mod screen. Both boxes at the top is selected, but mods do not download. I then click on the subscribe all at the bottom, but again, no mods are installed / downloaded.
I really want to play this game again (not the vanilla version as just too many issues with toxic players), but how do I get to play with mods..?

Sorry, I don’t have any answer to the actual question - I’m seeing a fair few complaints about people not being able to find modded servers recently, but I don’t know what the solution is. Hopefully someone else may have an idea.
They’re definitely allowing mods - they’ve been giving modders advance warning of some of the problems before they happen (like the next ‘modpocalypse’…). But it does seem to have been a bit more complicated with mods since the upgrade. I think they are probably still trying to work out the details so things can work more smoothly. (But, you’re right, if anyone would know better what is going on, then it would be Xevyr )
Actually Inflexion have been putting even more effort into the modding side of things than Funcom has in the past few years (Funcom also did great early on with Legacy, but then stopped focusing on that part almost entirely at the end).
But yes, we actually have developers now who even test the game with mods internally and despite doing radical changes quite often, try to minimize issues with mods as much as they can at least.
As for the question itself, the server browser UI was redesigned in the last update and currently it does have some bugs with filters not staying on properly etc. so it’s more of a “bad timing” as it was working fine for months prior to this and remembered all the filter choices etc. without issues.
That being said they also added a Continue option to the main menu now, which will reconnect to the last server, so you only have to struggle with the server browser the first time if you play on the same server always.
Other than that, the launcher still doesn’t pick up on mods, but they can be enabled in the ingame Mods menu.
(and shameless plug, I still have my server too, though with very few players nowdays in case any of you want to play there )
As I’m not the most tech savvy of people, I fear I maybe doing something wrong, but what - I have no idea. For whatever reason, when I find a server with mods I like the look of, the mods themselves just do not download / update.
I have deleted Conan and switched the computer off. I have then, after a couple of minutes switched the computer back on, reinstalled Conan but the same thing is happening. I have then gone into steam, deleted the cache, rebooted the computer, but yet again, all mods are just queued up and doing nothing.
Please, can anyone help me, or do I just delete the game for good, and hopefully, in time, find something else to pass my time..?
Don’t take this for absolute truth, but I think I have seen some similar complaints pop up about other games on Steam discussions after updates in general. This might be an issue existing on Steam’s side or even both sides.
I’ve never had anything like this happen. Here’s what Google says about it.
To fix Steam workshop mods that will not download or show up in Conan Exiles, force Steam to refresh by unsubscribing and restarting, and activate them inside the in-game title screen menu rather than the old launcher.
Quick Fixes for Stuck Downloads
Unsubscribe and Resubscribe: On the Steam Workshop, unsubscribe from the broken mod, restart Steam entirely, and resubscribe to trigger a fresh download.
Clear Download Cache: Open Steam Settings, go to Downloads, and click Clear Download Cache. Steam will restart and clear stuck queue files.
Verify Integrity: Right-click Conan Exiles in Steam, select Properties, go to Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files.
Check the In-Game Mod Menu
Recent game updates changed how mods are handled. They often do not appear in the external launcher tool anymore. Launch the game to the main title screen. Open the Mods menu option directly inside the game. Move your downloaded mods from the available list on the left to the active list on the right, then restart the game when prompted.
I don’t think uninstalling / reinstalling can really help here. Generally when connecting to a modded server, if you don’t have the mods needed, the game would subscribe and download these mods - for this to happen you would need to have the Auto-subscribe and download mods box checked in the game settings (it also shows on that mod mismatch screen).
After that the game would restart, because it can only load mods on startup. - This is normal.
Not being able to download mods like this would generally mean something is preventing that. Either your Steam client is not logged in properly (you can try to actually relog to Steam via the switch account menu option) and make sure you are not in offline mode.
If this doesn’t work at all, then you could try manually subscribing to the mods on the Steam workshop that the server you want to connect has. When you have the game closed and Steam open, subscribing to mods should trigger Steam to download them, you would see normal downloads happening similar to game updates upon subscribing.
Then when you go to the Mods menu ingame (not the launcher, because that doesn’t show mods) you should be able to enable them by moving them to the right side panel and you also need to change their order so it matches the order on the server exactly.
If all else fails, I do have several guides and a small tool that can also download mods directly from Steam in my discord
Every time funcom does a game update. Most to all MODS need a fix. Some get fixed fast some moders take their time. NO?
funcom been doing a update almost every 2 weeks rn it seems so mods will give problems till the game gets more stable.
least thats my take on mods and the only real problems i have with them.
I tried to run a server with just few mods not to long ago. but they never stayed up to date. so I lost players. I decided to play without mods till game is more stable.
In my case that’s fairly easy since 95% of mods on my server are made by me so I know when the author updates and which ones will break (or where to find the bastard in case I want to complain about his mods!!!) - though most of the time mine don’t need updates at all as I deliberately try to make them as future-proof as possible.
Some updates ofc. will still break them.. like the one coming in 2 weeks, which will break every single mod as the game is getting yet another engine upgrade.
