Considering that the original problem of the OP was being outnumbered, and trying to find a solution to that, I don’t think it’s off-topic to discuss the possibility that perhaps dying to being gang-banged is actually an intended feature in the game.

Yes, Conan was able to beat multiple opponents on several occasions. He was also described to “move like a panther” and similar allegories. He did not just stand still and face-tank his opponents.

Similarly, mobility is the key to survive being outnumbered in the game. It’s quite possible to defeat quite a number of opponents as long as you retain your mobility and don’t get stuck on the scenery. Our protagonist is not Conan, so expecting us to perform as well as Conan is unrealistic, but we can still beat seemingly overwhelming odds by playing smart.

Unfortunately this does not help thralls because they’re idiots and let themselves be surrounded. At that point it’s up to the player to manage their engagements in a way that the total number of adversaries between the player and followers is survivable. If you send a thrall against five opponents and are unable to help, you deserve to lose the thrall.
