FWIW, in the years of yore, before there were even rules on official servers, black ice builds would adversely impact the client-side performance. I was there, Gandalf, 3000 years ago, and I’ve witnessed it personally.
That particular problem has gone away over time, but it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that there’s superstition around it that has its roots in those olden days.
Then again, it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that there’s a real problem with black ice, a new one. I mean, they’ve screwed around with things best left alone and screwed them up royally (looking at you, inventory management), so why wouldn’t they introduce some regression or a completely new problem with black ice?
