From a purely pragmatic standpoint, uniforms of any kind are kind of stupid in most cases. Why should soldiers show their allegiance or even identify als threats?

But cultural and psychological factors make us pick us uniform (or force others to wear them). Putting people into a specific “assassin” uniform may have religious reasons, or it may force them to actually perform their duty to kill. In a military context, it’s likely that people that openly display their willingness to kill “dishonorably” are not likely to be taken prisoner and will not even be given a chance to defect. The same may be true for a cult of assassins. In a world full of myth and religion, that rational would probably be clad in a religious context: Put on the garb of a servant of Zath, and perform his sacred rite… on that guy our king doesn’t like."

What we can learn from that, however, is that the assassins of Funcom’s Hyboria might all be members of or inspired by a specific cult, just as they were in the real world.
