I have some preliminary results: if your PS4 is updated to the last firmware available, version 7.00 in your region, there is no longer a problem with the n adapter on your particular unit. Because it is a fat profile it has a network adapter built on well-proven tech, so if your PS4 is up to date on firmware, this is not even a potential issue.
In my particular case I was forced to hardwire all my PS4s due to all sorts of problems, not the least of which was hardlock. This was back in 2017, but it does appear Sony has repaired most of the 802.11n âfatal errors.â In my tests yesterday and today on virtual PS4 setups in emulation, even under-patched (as in without the repair) I canât create the locks that used to occur with great regularity. These locks will occur with or without actual network connectivity at the time, thus itâs often tough to connect the dots.
Via triage then my next move was to test the idea of gamesave corruption. This was with an alt character and a fairly populated savegame. I first made a copy on the cloud, and then I took a copy of the savegame onto a usb thumb drive. Then I basically pulled the ethernet, attached it to wifi and commenced to play the game pretty roughly. Under no circumstances, during force quits, system restarts and even shutdowns did I have any corrupted data. I also was unable to achieve the error message about the unavailability of the save.
My next test will be via my personal hotspot, but thatâll have to wait until Sunday. Please feed back any new details.

I unfortunately must agree that this could be a hardware issue.
Be sure to keep your original (older) backup safe, and make your new backup as soon as convenient.
Just out of interest, how long have you had your HDD? Do you ever noticed any clicking, or other noises, being emitted during use?
Also, do you have access to another PlayStation?
Thankyou for your kind words and good wishes BiJay, you have always been a good friend to me on the forum, and it is appreciated. Barnes and Hugo are both looking into it, and I am being cautious. Im sure a solution can be found and I will be back enjoying the game I love so much soon.

Thats ok buddy, I see it as one more possibility eliminated. The cause will be unesrthed one way or another.
EDIT/DEVELOPMENT: Having just reloaded it up again, the below message now comes up everytime I go to load my save data. Hope it gives you something to go on.
NOTES- this now pops up whenever I first try to load CE. I follow its requests, press X then wait. When I try to load up a second time it worked without any further delays both times. It is almost as ifâŚit thinks the save data is missing but it actually isnt. Maybe that is why I get stuck on the âSelect Respawn Pointâ screen too; it thinks there is no save data to load but there actually isâŚ!? Any thoughts guys? @Barnes and @LordKAA?
Unfortunately that is the only news today Barnes. I have been very busy with real life stuff, and when I am home, I am getting to the point where I am just to damn scared to turn it on incase it all comes undone much of the time. But thanks again so much.
Question 1: should I go to safe mode and try to rebuild the database? Or would that be too dangerous or not relevant to the problem?
Question 2: Hugo already advised removing them, but should I try to rebuild Battle Standards, play with settings if I can, then demolush them again? Or too risky do you feel?
Question 3: Are there any settings within the Admin Panel which may subdue this, or disable Battle Standards entirely?
Question 4: Should I attempt to load up CE with the internet connected?
Note: I have decided I will go back and give as much detail on the stuck respawn screen as possible, see if there are any details I missed. Comprehensive account coming soon.
PS- Im happy to give you my ps4 user name in a PM too if that helps any.
By âhardware issueâ do you mean the external HD LordKAA? It is not actually that old; probably 1 year to 1.5 years. No discernable noises.
Going to try and re-backup now. Also, yes my lady has her ps4 in another room.

I wouldnât be as bold as to say it was definitely the external HDD, but I always start by considering/removing external devices first.
Given that the issue is with loading data, it would indicate an issue within the storage system. Hence why I asked about the external HDD.
HDDs typically should be changed every few years to avoid performance issues.
However the issue could potentially be internal, or external. It could also be down to the save file, or the application itself.
Without the console in front of me itâs very difficult to determine.
Iâm trying to take a more simplistic route so we can maybe establish some more conditions in which to replicate your issue. Which could also potentially aid Barnes with his process.
Ensuring you backup all data first. Would it be possible for you to load your save game onto your wifeâs PlayStation. Or vice versa?
Esentially what I would like to establish, is if the issue is a corrupted save file.
Although Barnes couldnât replicate that scenario during his testing, it doesnât mean we can completely rule it out.
This should be safe, as it wonât actually delete anything (except for corrupted files). Due to your current situation, I would backup anything important just in case.
As long as you have all save data backed up, you should be fine to test any combination of events you deem useful to the process.
The only relevant settings are;
Main Menu> Settings> Gameplay> Battle Standard Setting> Always decline.
Yes, it is certainly worth a try.

Sorry, somehow I missed that edit.
That error message could be an indication of a corrupted save file.
If a file becomes corrupted it may become more difficult for a system to locate, and if located, may not operate as expected, or at all.
Can you confirm that this is only happening with this particular save file?
Did you manage to make the new backup yet?
If so go to;
PS Menu > Settings > Account Management > Restore Licences
Considering your sporadic internet connection, there is a (small) possibility that your licences have gone out of sync with your account. Itâs a bit of a long shot but worth a try.
Also did you attempt the Database rebuild function, in safe mode? If not go ahead and do that after restoring your licences.
Those would probably be your next best steps.
If none of those options help, can you possibly log into your SP game on your wifeâs PlayStation? (Remember to also back up all her save data first).
Let me know how it goes.

Ok this is REALLY bad!!!
I have just loaded up my game today, and oh the new joys which awaited me (sarcasm and thinly veiled contempt). It started innocently enough. After getting my usual âno data could be foundâ screen as pictured in the above post, I had around a 20 minute play session. Probably unrelated to my problem, but I captured this charming moment.
But I wont digress with that, as it is not what is bothering me. Basically, before I quit the game I walked ito my home and pressed ⥠or interact button on my Bed at my base then paused and selected âquit to main menuâ. However it got stuck in a loading loop right at the end of the bar. So, I know you advised me not to do this anymore @Barnes, but I had to quit to the dashboard. I waited for 10 mins, what choice did I have⌠Heres an ordinary looking screenshot.
Being naturally concerned, I loaded my game back up, and instead of spawning in at the foot of my bed at my base, I spawned further up the river right near a camp of Exiles I have encountered earlier (it is almost as if the save function is not keeping upâŚ?). Oh but wait here comes the âhome runâ. When I appeared there my Journey Steps had completely reset themselves, with several loghing as complete while they wailed on me. For the record, I had completed all of them except for the following three: âexplore the entire exiled landsâ, defeat the mummy of the ringâ and âescape the exiled landsâ.
Can anyone spot the problem with the Journey Steps displayed? And for 1.5 year long lvl 60 character at that. It took me a very, and I mean VERY long time to complete all of them, especially the âdiscover all of the Lemurian lorestonesâ and âdiscover all of the Giant-King obelisksâ. This is utterly ridiculous, it is getting worse by the day. Just a few weeks ago I had no issues, now it has gone from that to this, this quickly. I have a newfound respect and sympathy for anyone who is experiencing technical issues with this game.
My heart is breaking⌠

Because I stream tips and help when I can, I regularly reset my Journey Steps and Steam Achievements using a console command. This is very easy to induce if you are having save rewrites/overwrites as you report.
This may sound random, but what happens to your Single Player game if you happen to dashboard and then put your box to sleep? On my PS4, if I dashboard and then put my machine to sleep, I receive fairly predictable results.
Is that your method of PS4 rest, or do you power it off entirely?
Now that Iâm done with the Q&A, hereâs the hard part. Because the PS4 masks whatâs actually going on behind the scenes, you are experiencing an involuntary rollback to where you were prior to pressing Square on your bed.
Please load your game, then pick up your bed and place it down again. Then remove bracelet and zap to your bedroll. Pick it up and put it down again. Ensure both of these are bound to your toon. Finally, remove your bracelet, zap to the desert and run north until you get bored, or you make it to your bed.

I must say it does. I usually turn it off as opposed to putting it to sleep. It turns off as usual then later back on as usual.
Barnes before I do anything else, a question and memorandum. I have backed up my save file (but not until after the Journey Steps issue
). I tried to restore licenses as LordKAA suggested, but to no effect. Unless you advise me otherwise, I am going to try and Rebuild the Database. Or do you think this is a bad idea? Also, should I do the Bed/Bedroll thing before or after I Rebuild it?
PS- do remember that removing the bracelet now comes with risks for me, ie- infinite âSelect Respawn Pointâ screen. But I am happy to still try.

I would save this current savegame as a different file, and Iâd restore my old savegame (which I hope youâve made recently at my urging :p) from prior to loss of JS.
Once your savegame is restored, ensure your PS4 is connected to the web and reaffirm your bed items.
If you have no recent savegames and wish to soldier on, please keep your PS4 attached to the internet while you pick up and re-place your bed and bedroll, then respawn in the desert.
In the event of infinite reload, please try putting your PS4 to sleep. Weâll get this, and you have a backup, at least.

Really sorry to see your problem has worsened.
I too, hope you saved a back up before your most recent gameâŚ
Iâd certainly follow the method offered by Barnes, before attempting anything else.
Good luck!

Thanks to the efforts and suggestions offered by @Barnes via a PM I have managed to recover my lost Journey Steps. However the issue surrounding the âSelect Respawn Pointâ screen continues. I have found that if I quit (exit the application) directly to the to ps4 dashboard that it does not (touch wood) get stuck in a loading loop when I try to subsequently reload the game.

I have also been communicating with Barnes via PM. I have decided to copy the most recent development to my thread here in the hope they will help the team resolve my issue. Please help me guys!
Greetings Barnes.
I have updated the bug report thread with our success in recovering the lost Journey Steps. As I purported yesterday, I have killed myself a number of times during the game to assess the current situation, and also repeated the Bed/Bedroll method. I only had time for around 5-6 deaths before I had to turn it off Im affraid.
The Results
I did not get stuck on the loading screen during last nights testing. However, the âSelect Respawn Pointâ issue still remains I am affraid. I have also updated the OP in my thread on it with some additional details in the steps to reproduce if that helps.
Interesting note: this may be just a coincidence but I noticed that it did not get stuck occasions when I died by my own hand (ie- removed the bracelet, jumped off a cliff) , however it did whenever I was killed by an enemy NPC (Wight and Wolf). These were also after I ported (ie- had a loadscreen) first via Maproom, second via Admin teleport. Finally, I noticed thst if I quit directly to the ps4 menu instead of the games main menu, the load screen does not subsequently get caught in a loop (thus far).
I am also still getting the Save Data Missing message on the main menu when I attempt to load the game from the main menu. However it appears to still work on the second attempt. I can live with this if the need arises. But the respawn issue I cant.
Battle Standards: was on the âalways askâ option. I switched this to the âalways declineâ option as LordKAA suggested.
I now have a question Barnes. You have not yet given me a definate on this one. Im not certain if you are just hoping to try other things first or are reluctant to recommend it, but I must know.
Q. Should I attempt to Rebuild Database on ps4, or hold off for now?
Kind Regards
Croms_Faithful
Hi @Hugo.
I know that in one of your posts to me regarding my issue, you advised me to get back in touch with you if there were any developments. I have had some, both good and bad. I know that this thread is starting to become lengthy, but Im politely urging you to read the posts since our last communication. Hugo while @Barnes is working on things on his end, is there anything else you and the devs can recommend I do or try?? I need help, this is hands down the worst issue that has befallen me since launch time.
I am now VERY seriously considering this. I would need to pay my PC repair guy, but I am so absolutely willing to do so if you think it may resolve the issue. He us a reasonabke guy. However, if I do this I have 2 questions for yourself, @LordKAA and @Barnes. Q1) will it also delete my dlc if I uninstall? Q2) will anything I have stored or created using the dlc and free updates reappear after I reinstall? For example, the Frontier roofing on my base, and my Khari steel and Armour Scraps I have from dungeons.
I have now further updated this throughout the thread and in the OP Steps to Reproduce. As it now states, I can select any or all of the respawn points, but it just does not cut to the loading screen as it should. It would remain on the screen shown in OPs screenshot all night unless I quit the game.
The button prompts seem to be working, however it just wont seem to cut to the loading screen after the countdown timer reaches 0.
I have now toggled Battle Standards to âalways declineâ as advised by another member. The Banner itself is still gone. Although considering the situation, should I perhaps rebuild it and try to tinker with it further, or would you advise against this still?
Unfortunately my friend as the posts will inform, it has reocurred many times since our last correspondence. Just to restate, and considering the new information, is there anything else you or the team advise that I can try or do? I am utterly desperate for help or advice here.
Kind Regards
Croms_Faithful

Thatâs excellent news!
As far as Iâm aware, once the DLC has been downloaded, it is intrinsically linked to the main file, and unable to be seperately deleted/saved. However, to eliminate all possibilities, I would personally remove all CE related files.
As long as you have your save file backed up all items you have stored will remain. However if you donât reinstall the DLC you wonât be able to interact with DLC placeables in the intended way. (E.g. Statues will no longer be returned to inventory.)
Before you go to the extent of a full reinstall I would strongly suggest attempting the Database rebuild first.
Good luck

Thank you for sharing all developments regarding the issue, and to everyone who has pitched in as well!
As weâve been unable to replicate a similar behavior on our end weâre suspecting that, besides possible patching/installation issues, there could be some sort of issue with your save gameâs database.
In order to confirm this, you could either backup your current save to a USB disk and start a new game to see if the issue occurs and/or send us the save through DM so that we can look into it, if possible.

I wanted to leave enough time for Hugoâs escalation to settle with you, @Croms_Faithful, prior to my posting any updates from my end. This is extraordinary support, and Iâd definitely take it up. As I just said via PM, if you can make multiple saves and keep them organized, this data may be very helpful to Funcom in the long run. In my professional opinion, you should send the savegame that you were able to restore on Saturday.
Furthermore, the hunch I had about bed and bedroll might have helped you, so I think itâs important to mention it here:
In sequence, I asked Croms_Faithful to pick up and replace his bedroll and bed, via bracelet pulls, with his Internet connection on, and ensuring he was bound to the bed. Once this was accomplished, I asked him to pull his bracelet and respawn in the desert. When done, I asked him to run north until he either got to a bed, or got bored, and emerged from the desert via bracelet pull.
Like Bizzarro-Caesar I came not to step on Hugoâs post, but to praise him!
Also thanks and
fistbump to @LordKAA, for filling in the gaps, and helping out when I was offline.
That said, his advice to rebuild your database is the way I recommended in the PM, and once youâve made another backup, the way I would go prior to reinstalling.

Ok peoples I have newsâŚbizzare news at that. I have followed up on your instructions Barnes and done some extensive testing along the way. After getting much worse, it seems to have now gotten much better, and the issue may even be completely gone! For gods sake please keep your fingers crossed and touch some wood. Sound confusingâŚ? It is! Even stranger still, the apparent solution may not have been Rebuilding the Database, but an accidental one. I am going to put together what will probably be a very detailed report and recount of everything which happened, including the steps undertaken and the results of my testing to benefit Funcom. However, there is a lot to document so please be patient guys while I do a detailed follow up. Then hopefully by the end someone will be able to explain what the hell just happened and how it worked. But for the momentâŚit seems to be good news.
