In base security/ returning players

As everyone knows, when you log off in this game your character eventually becomes removed from the world, in full gear also possibly with a full inventory. Months, years could pass before you log on to that server again. When you do return you return with everything you had on your character intact and in the same location(usually) as when you left. This creates a security problem. What if a player left the server months ago and logged off inside of where your base is now built? The answer is easy, they find themselves inside of your base , potentially during the non-raid hours, safe from your guards but still able to loot benches, kill unsuspecting players, place explosive jars, etc…you can see how this is a problem (unless the devs have fixed this issue and to my knowledge they have not but I digress, I could be wrong)

Anyways I would like to suggest that these returning players, if they happen to be spawning on claimed land that is not their own, be removed and placed at a desert spawn, with their full gear and inventory of coarse, respectively. Either that or stop removing them from the world so that their unconscious bodies are accessible and thus you are able to remove them from your base location. It does say in the games load screens to log off in a safe location because your body is not removed from the world…

Would not the character eventually die of something and end up in the desert.

I’ve heard long time players say that it used to be that way but the game has evolved into a “safe space”.

So yes if the unconscious character was discovered ( before it was removed from the world) then it could be killed and if it did not have a bed or bedroll placed then ,yes, it’s only spawn option would be in the desert.

*note to sestus2009: reread the first post, I believe , I think you may have missed a few of the talking points there.

No. Characters that haven’t logged in for a week (and haven’t died during that time) are removed from the world. And it’s simple to ensure you don’t die – just make sure you’re logged out in a sheltered place.

There are two problems with this feature:

  • These characters can be used as unreachable vaults. Make an alt, have a clanmate add that alt to your clan, store stuff in that alt’s inventory, log it out in a safe place, and in one week that alt becomes the equivalent of a vault, but one that nobody can reach by any in-game means.
  • As described by WhiteRabbit, when a character like this comes back, it spawns where it logged out, which might be inside someone else’s base.

Ok I understand. Didn’t know that after a week body would be safely removed from server. I can see how that could definitely be a problem.

This has some inconsistencies, though. As of lately, I’ve seen my clanmates despawn after a single server restart, but they all suddenly reappeared today after being despawned for two days.

That’s weird. I’ve never seen anyone despawn in less than a week. Is it a private server with mods?

Nope, official 1083. It happens so much, to the point that I was chasing a couple of guys from another clan a few nights ago when the restart hit us. I frantically spammed the IP login in hopes of being the first one to log and loot their sleeping bodies, but they were nowhere to be found, only their followers.

Yeah from own observations I’ve been noticing that clan mates unconscious bodies are despawning(being removed from world) after only a few hours after logging off. Has been like this ever since the recent thrall nerf a few weeks back, approximately.
