Hi, I want to suggest way to temporary increase decay timer. It helps people leave to vacaition without fear that all buildings will be destroyed. You can add any kind of temple or something like that, it will cost a lot of resourses (so it should be hard to build). At the other hand it will have limited time of life (for example 2-3 days). After building this temple(or smthg) the decays timer will be increased as well on 2-3 days. So we will have 6(normal) + 3 from temple = 9 total. Normal vacation is around 7 days, so it may helps to keep all stuff. Another one suggestion is to add new shield to all religions altars which will use the same rules described above. I guess it is more simple realized.
