While you need now Oil for Insulated Wood you need a way to produce Oil if you can unlock Journeyman Mason.
You can unlock Insulated Wood at level 20 with Journeyman Mason but you get the Fluid Press and the possibilty to produce oil first at level 28 (Finding Oil from killing NPCs is not an alternative cause you can’t get enough for great structures).
This is a great imbalance for T2 Buildings with insulated wood and makes T2 Insulated wood Buildings nearly useless cause you get Master Mason (Black Ice Buildings with the same Insulated wood costs) at level 30.
@Tascha this point has been made several times since oil was added to the insulated wood recipe.
I suggest it can be addressed by changing the level at which the fluid press can be unlocked … such as level 19 or 20.
(Seeing as at level 19 we can unlock the Dryer which we can use to start to use to accumulate resin and dried wood if we haven’t ventured into the areas with abundant dry trees to harvest from or the highlands for resin as a by-product of wood harvesting…speaking from personal experience on this one…)
@Tascha this really is something which was pointed out some times already.
I wonder why you do not make it working similar to hardened bricks.
Make an consolidant you need to produce in the alchemic station, like the one you need for hardened brick, and combine it with black ice to get black ice bricks.
This would make black ice harder but not influence the T2 as pointed out here and in other threads.
Here the recipes:
Stone consolidant (existing)
2x Ichor
2x Twine
= 5 consolidant
When it comes to bricks I would make it so you need more Black Ice than stone as cost for not having to produce two bricks.
Hardened Brick (implemented)
1x Brick (needs 10x Stone plus crafting time)
1x Stone consolidant
Black Ice Brick (not implemented)
15 Black Ice (50% more than stone but no additional crafting time)
1x Ice consolidant
That way both work the same, you would have about balanced cost for the same protection plus you would not be so impromptu to just craft black ice wherever you are since it would require the furnace as the other variant.
