Inventory grayed out after fighting undead with inventory open

Repro steps:

  1. go to the black temple
  2. fight some undead, while fighting open inventory
  3. try to use a bandage during combat, get error message about being in combat
  4. close inventory, kill undead
  5. open inventory

expected:
i can use bandages and my inventory isn’t grayed out

observed:
all my items are grayed out EXCEPT torches or weapons, this effect persists if I close and reopen the game. it persists if I change resolutions, full screen vs. windowed, change graphics settings. i can even move items between my inventory to a box and back. boxes look fine, but it’s darkened in inventory.
