Is hardened steel obsolete?

I CAN NOT “go grab Star Metal” until lvl 39 (explosive jar) or even 49 (explosive arrows). Yes there is sorcery with Mass Cull now but it doesn’t make Frozen North less frozen or Sabertooth less dangerous. I’m not a “pro-gamer” or a speedrunner. You can go to the North in rags and with a stone sword; I can’t, I’m just a casual PVE player. You may skip all the content except end-game one; I do not want to skip it. If you do not need hardened steel or some other things in game then just don’t use it.

I think the best fix would simply be to go back to the original recipe.

Or not have hardened steel based on a recipe, have it a T2 black smith bench thing.
Maybe even revamp it to all be based on the bench. Iron T1, steel T2, hardened steel T3, star metal T4.

Or change what can be mined with what pick. Stone pick only works on base mats; rock, iron, trees. Need an iron pick for brimstone. Need a steel pick for black ice and hardened steel pick for star metal.

But hey, lets just push the RP. Add a second slot to the T3 and 4 benches for a bellows operator.

Might as well because I have to have T1or2 and T4 benches. I want the better armor but like the look of some of the low level armors. Same with weapons.

The reason I bother with hardened steel is for legendary repair kits. I know I can grind bosses in the UC for them, but, frankly, grinding bosses is not why I play this game. So I make them.

If you do not need hardened steel or some other things in game then just don’t use it.

This is what I’ve been saying all along, but everyone is trying to tell me a dozen different ways to use it instead lol.

I get the sentiment, but if you’re not killing bosses on the regular, what are you using the weapons on that they even need the kits for in the first place? You’re grinding something for one reason or another.

I will grind bosses occasionally, but mostly I farm thralls. Collecting is fun. As is stockpiling for trading or gifting. Better weapons make it shorter work. So legendary kits are my go to.

I use them to repair the black blood tools. I like to build, so I do grind materials.
