Disagree. It does not state that buying another copy of the game to play on after a ban is circumventing anything. It talks of family sharing, not buying another copy of the game.
It speaks of using a separate account to circumvent a ban. They aren’t banning the character; they are banning the player. If you have an alt account and want the official answer, I encourage you to inquire with both accounts via zendesk. I’m sure I am wrong and nothing bad will happen…
That is patently false. Again, I welcome people to test report themselves and see what happens.
Not without being guilty of an exploit. Family share is disabled on officials, not private servers. They actively dont want people having two accounts thru family share because that they can control. When it comes to alt accts, that is harder to know but you can bet 10000 Crom Coins that if you got caught doing that, your time on officials will be at an end.
So you are saying anyone who gets permanently banned or even banned once and don’t want to risk a permanent ban is exploiting by making another account in order to play the game they enjoy? Well dang you may as well report 90% of pvpers and just close down pvp mode. You’re out of touch with the reality of the game outside your private server.
It’s the only reason there’s still a playerbase on console. Stay in your bubble where you believe reporting is helping the game.
So then if I am running a second PC with a second copy of Conan Exiles that I bought, and one account gets a ban, I cant play on the second computer and second copy?
Yikes, that unwritten rule has been broken for years by people. I have a clan mate who runs two toons to farm, one on PC and one on laptop. Most efficient farmer youve ever seen.
Banning someone for buying a second copy of the game…Ive heard it all!
If you are suspended from official servers, expect to get banned if you alt and someone catches you. You can still play private servers or single player, but buying the game confers no entitlement to officials if you can’t play by the rules.
Alting is no different than family share, and you know its against the rules because its not enabled.
Dont believe I ever said anything of the sort. I’m merely pointing out what the OP asked about and what will happen to people if they get caught. I can’t help it if 90% of people per your stat can’t play by the rules. Perhaps that has something to do with the troubles in pvp.
It’s not worth any further argument. Games in rough shape as it is feel free to make a stink about those that want to continue playing even after unfairly getting permanently banned from a video game. That’s on you but just realize the further you go down that rabbit hole the more players leave and never come back. Calling the majority of the playerbase exploiters because of an alt account is silly.
If people can’t play by the rules, they arent playing the game anyway. Someone else’s cheating is not “on me”. Its on them.
Cheating now lol ok you win
Yes. Cheating. Cheating involves hacks, exploits and anything that gives advantage against the rules. Any competitive game has rules and when people don’t abide by them, they are “cheating”. Can’t have any healthy game environment if it allows cheating. So if thats what it takes for people to play pvp, its no wonder its in trouble.
Well, since there is nothing in the TOS, and Funcom hasnt replied yet, Im going with there is nothing wrong with it. As are many other players.
Lol, Im still laughing though, at the thought of being banned for buying two copies of the game. Its just as funny as getting banned for building!!
They don’t discuss exploits and it is the weekend for the community team. So…. not sure what you expect them to say. If its ok, they can just turn on family share and make it formal. But I know, people think that its okay because FC just wants money in their mind… again, another window into what causes problems in pvp. The mentality of some of the players.
At no point do they say anything about paying or not paying. In fact, here’s what they say (with some extra formatting added by me for emphasis):
Notice that it says players who shouldn’t be able to play the game. This is why I said that I understand why @darthphysicist claimed what he did, because the wording of the post states that when they ban a player, they don’t want that player to be able to play on official servers.
I still think that @Community Managers should come here and explicitly confirm (or deny) this, because some of you will go to any lengths to interpret this in increasingly “creative” ways:
The IP has absolutely nothing to do with bans. When Funcom bans someone, they add their account to the blacklist that is distributed across all official servers. Your Funcom account has a unique identifier which is associated with your account in whatever store you used to buy the game (e.g. Steam).
No one cares who you “debate” did whatever they did, as long as your credentials were used to play the game. If you were dumb enough to give your username and password to someone so they could impersonate you, then you deserve the ban.
Personally, I neither know nor care whether they allow alts or not. As you can see, there are some things they wrote that indicate their bans are targeting people, rather than their wallets as many of you assume, but this is just one more of those things that they really should clarify.
Who knows, maybe this time they will?
You are arguing about the mechanics of the ban, not whether it is or is not frowned upon. No one questions the mechanics of the way they ban the account to get the player off the server. That is not the point of the OP or what anyone here is even discussing. Of course they blacklist the account that they know you have. If they knew you had other accounts and had their funcom ids, you can bet they’d be blacklisted too.
Are you in the habit of sharing your Steam username and password with anyone who happens to use your PC?
I think it’s sad that fellow players are comparing building infractions with actual cheating. If you eliminate the ability to use alt accounts this game will completely die (at least pvp). Going out of your way to make countless people leave the game. Alt accounts wouldn’t be needed if we weren’t getting banned left and right for god knows what.
Yes, and nobody was discussing that at any point. We’re discussing whether alt accounts are allowed. An “alt account” is an additional account owned by the same person.
That’s your assertion. People are disputing that because of what the Funcom Engagement Director wrote. In her post, the wording indicates that they don’t want the person who got banned to play on the official servers.
Whether that’s true or not, it has nothing to do with a different person.
There’s an easy way: the person who bought an alt to avoid the ban comes out and says so in chat. It’s not unusual for people who got banned for cheating to come back with an alt and taunt others by explicitly saying what they’re doing.
It helps if they use the same character and clan name, and behave in the exact same way. Or hell, it doesn’t have to be the same name, it could be something similar, kinda like “Palm522” and “Palm523”
