The hitboxes in this game are absolutely terrible. Try attacking the crocodile in close combat. You’ll see that the only spot on the crocodile’s body where you can deal damage is right in the center of its torso—as if the hitbox were an invisible monolith sticking vertically out of its back, even though a crocodile is a horizontal creature 
It feels really off
