It's Over for Funcom CE

The point is that Funcom said they would take a whole year for supposed bug fxes of the game, and there would not be any new anything during this time, save for Bazaar items. After the entire year of bug fixes I think we can all agree the list of fixes was pretty small and very underwhelming. They also said in December that they would announce soon what plans are for 2026. We are almost into March and I would think you give news about what to expect that year at the beginning of the year or the year before, not halfway through 2026. So because I see and hear these things and the inaction and silence, it feels like they are silently letting the game fade into time. I’m still hopeful to see that next post announcing the next Age or DLC or dungeon.

Btw I’m on Xbox, I play single player, and I still play games that are 10+ years old. Like Skyrim , ESO, and I would still play Cyberpunk if it has something to offer at 10 years. Same with CE. There is something about some RPGs that is timeless.

Age does have a wearing effect on most games, but there are a handful of unique games like this that can live much longer if given proper attention, updates, and loving interest.

That’s what I think we are all asking for and a little more clarity on the matter.

Interesting find. Thanks for posting this!

it’s not misunderstanding on purpose , i get that for you nothing has changed , but it has changed nontheless , be it the community team being canned , be it the amount of live stream we got this year for conan exiles ( 0 and 0 other videos like the recap or anouncements ) compared to last year ( 2 : age of war chap4 and age of heroes + 5 short videos of chapter recap , and age of heros launch ) https://www.youtube.com/@Funcom

the fact that indeed they said they would concentrate on bug fixing , but in reality if you go through the various patch notes of the years prior to this one , then you would see the same amount of bugfix maybe even more than what we had this year , but without the content of the ages ….

and on the forums the lack of “ report received “ tag , that the years prior you would see under many bug reports , whereas now only 1 in 100 bug report has this tag granted …

where is the annual producer letter that we had the years prior ?

I’m not saying that I agree with the “doom posters” , but at least I can understand where they are comming from … now that’s a good news that they’re looking for a conan exiles community manager . But I’m wondering why it’s not on their website … are they hiding this hire from Tencent ?:thonk:

By visiting this games social media and apply your feedback. Regardless if you agree or disagree with other opinions, keep giving your own feedback. We ain’t same people neither have fun the same way with the game. It’s not our fault neither theirs i guess since they fixed a game with humongous possibilities. If it was stable too hah ?

What’s wrong in these to prove otherwise?

It could be an incomplete list actually for the existing problems of the game  .

Just a taste i could say.

But please don’t believe on White Knight sh.it in here. Nobody is and nobody intents to be .

As for our fellow mastermind @Xevyr understand one thing. He tries hard with his mods to stabilise the experience for his fellow gamers. He probably have spent literally thousands of hours all these years to help others to enjoy the game. His information is always valid even if he doesn’t have access to all the material of the game (if only he had damn it) . We own him only gratitude and apply it wholeheartedly to him even if i cannot enjoy his effort. Yet his information had helped me a lot to understand the unknown gaming system . Before i come to this forum all i knew for gaming was the buttons of my controller  . These people in here have lifted me to another lvl of understanding gaming and i owe only gratitude to them.

May I add that they still didn’t revert decay timers (despite message of the day active since december) - can’t manage to do even that…pure incompetence - and yet we are discussing future of this game as a whole, heh.

Many don’t seem to be aware of this, but I have noticed things going on that can only be described as “in the background” or “in the shadows”. These little things I’ve been noticing are giving me the distinct impression that there are people working on this game. (despite the fact there seems to be no “official public announcements”).

Sometimes, fixing the little things may add up to major fixes. They are neither simple or easy.

I am certain they reserve the time on their schedule to make official announcements in their due time.

One thing to be aware of is we cannot expect them to cater to us. Much less expect them to bow to any demands.

This is new somehow because…? :woman_shrugging:

How many games have come how that were the “death of Conan Exiles”? 9 years and counting, if new games coming out were going to do it it would have happened already.

Again, that would have happened already, because this is not new. Not by a long stretch.

Fair point, I don’t begrudge you feeling that way.

this is like the only game that satisfies my wants; just would like some more bugfixes and some small crumbs of content

might make a separate post for my Age of Heroes chapter 2-3 wishlist

You can play this game offline via the .exe file in the game folder, and I believe it can stay that way if one day this game goes EOS

totally agree, but if you point out bazaar pricing and dubious discount practice, the comment gets immediatly deleted
you can’t make this up

Maybe it is scripted in some way? I’m not that familiar with technical side of such forum/site.
Also - I belive some folks are still working on CE, mentioned bazaar has new offer f.e. - but hey, it is embarrasing for them to display message of the day on official servers which is past due by a month…

I think it has something to do with balance. Prior we still had folks out there actively defending the game (call it white knighting or just general standing up for the game that they are still spending hundreds of hours playing). Those positive forces (myself included) have diminished as the game is approaching a limit where the growth in content is no longer obvious and starting to show the flat line of a maintenance mode (think in terms of a limit graph).
So without the balance of people promoting positivity, the ones promoting negativity show more readily and set the tone of the forum.

I still play but it’s not the same as it was and once I get to a certain point in the PC progression….I just stop and log off as I know how the rest will play out after that point since I’ve done it so many times before. Even building isn’t showing novelty and I see the end coming as far as my attention goes.

Although a note to those lurker dev voyeur types…..More the last two additions really got my interest up (dark dregs and sorcery update) compared to the others (sacred hunt and head hunting) and so any updates/cycles that significantly transition the map or add much needed depth to an established system in the game is better than taskers layered on the game.

Yea, I think that’s a pretty legit observation, plus the other one I made above that the net amount of new threads per day seemed to have also dropped, so these might stand out way more than before.

I actually have to read a lot of them in the Playstation mod community, but most are very positive. I mean, they are about mods so usually people are either asking for more, getting help to troubleshoot when things go wrong or praising the improvements. It’s a very cool, healthy community, easy to moderate. On occasion you have the usual spat, but generally it’s nice.

Bethesda sucks ass tho! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Modders, otoh, are mostly great. But the whole scene is overwhelming at first when compared to CE, especially on PC.

Skyrim will keep going strong. CE, most likely too, for a niche audience.

Now here’s the thing. Yes they are money grabbers definitely. But …

I still receive information emails from games i played on companies like Bethesda etc …

I never received information emails from Funcom except their Conan store which has absolutely nothing to do with the game obviously.

They need to improve their communication with their player base.

I do appreciate a lot the existence of this forum but it’s not enough.

Bethesda is a money-grabbing company that did a lot of bad things to gaming culture - thanks for the horse armor, for repeatedly breaking mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4 with upates nobody asked for, thanks for reselling Skyrim a dozen times, thanks for the shoddy quality control and hugging the Fallout license, making it impossible for better companies to continue that great world. From what gets to the public, they’re mean to their employees, business partners and - of course - their customers.

With Skyrim, they had great success, and the game is still fun (with mods). Fallout 3 was a lazy Skyrim reskin, Fallout 4 had serious problems, but I still had fun with both.

What they lack, in my opinion, is the courage or inspiration some of Funcom’s games have. There’s a lot of work put into Bethesda games, but little creativity in my opinion.

Sadly, Funcom/Tencent followed Bethesda’s invention of paid content, and their quality control is in similarly dismal state. But the latter has to be seen in light of their team being much smaller and their games being more niche. You probably cannot afford a Bethesda-sized team for a slavery-based survival game based in a somewhat obscure fantasy world.

Skyrim’s longevity is 100% due to modders. If it wasn’t for mods, I would have shelfed it for good years ago.

I think that it is worth mentioning that Conan Exiles is currently a live service game and that comes with expectations in service and support.

Skyrim is not a live service game.

Yeah, well, they claim it’s live service, true, and should invest more to fulfill that promise to the customer.

Compare Conan Exiles to Stellaris: That game seems to have established a working cycle of updates, paid expansions and constant development. The game has been changed dramatically since release - many system several times. One doesn’t have to love all they do with that game (Stellaris), which has “flavor of the month”-itis, but they seem to have worked out a working business model. Would be great if Conan Exiles would be in a similar cycle - or truely abandoned, so at least no mods will ever break again.

I knew of Stellaris but I went ahead and read a few things since your comparison. Interesting that both games have a similar age. Great mention!

“One doesn’t have to love all they do with that game” ABSOLUTELY!

Perhaps we’ll see a bit more stability in what lies in the future for CE once they fill the CM position.

I’m actually quite hopeful due to them hiring a new community manager. I don’t get why they let the previous team go if they still have a demand for that, but anyhow, they apparently still want to invest into Conan Exiles.

I’ll try to do a comparison between Stellaris and how a similar plan might look for Conan Exiles. For those who don’t know Stellaris: It’s 4X space strategy game with a focus on storytelling. It has quest-like systems, hero characters that can level up, and your civilization can have some crazy origin stories like being survivors of a nuclear war or being enslaved by another civilization.

  • Stellaris gets a major update every few months. The update usually
    • fixes bugs,
    • changes balance within existing systems and
    • changes complete systems, e. g. what buildings on planets do.
  • Usually parallel to the patch, Paradox sells a DLC. The DLC usually introduces
    • new possible origins for your civilization,
    • a new collectible system, e. g. finding artifacts, special leaders or resources and
    • new visuals, such as new portraits for your species.

The patch and the DLC usually have some connection. For example, if they’d introduce a new type of ship, the shipbuilding system may be overhauled. That gives a slight “flavor of the month” feeling and incentive to buy the DLC, but it’s really pretty slight imho. They don’t break the game for those who don’t buy the newest craze.

The company offers a subscription for 9.99 $/€ per month. The game with all DLC costs a whopping 316.55 $/€ on steam, which includes a lot of discounts for older DLC - if you bought everything when it came out, it might be in the range of 600 $/€. One can guess from that they collect something between 1 and 10 $/€ per month from regular players.

How could that work for Conan Exiles?

  • Have a patch every three or six months that
    • fixes bugs, e. g. thralls falling through the floor,
    • changes balances within existing systems, e. g. fixing the stats of thralls and animal followers,
    • overhauls systems, e. g. religions.

A corresponding DLC for e. g. 20 $/€ could

  • introduce new systems such as sorcery and the new purge, such as rare resource drops like gemstones, dyes for building pieces,
  • add new content, such as new dungeons or events and
  • add visuals, such as armor pieces, hairstyles and building pieces.

The cash shop would be discontinued.

Would that work for Conan Exiles? Would you buy such DLC, fellow barbarians?
