I have added an object that can be given to players in a server using the Law and Order so a limited area is free to build in a "first come first served manner. If they build in the outermost limit, two players can have a small base in one FBA. That also deppends on the size of the claim in the server.
The brazier allow for building around it to a large radius of 5000.
The camp allows for a smaller radius of 750, and only some placeables can be built around it.
If the server uses the Social Contract mod, a thrall from the admin can handle giving these items to players, BTW.
The CBA, Camp Building Area, for the Law and Order. Essentials for a mobile camp that can be built, but if the player want to move to another area, they have to “clean up” after themselves, by removing all the built structures around the tent, and then be able to remove the tent, so it can be built in another place.
Can the same player build place another brazier and expand the radius of the land claim? Then how many of them a player can build?
The rules are as follows:
An admin (sole Law and Order use) or a Thrall from the Admin (If you use social contract) can give Braziers and Tents, which might be given freely or one of each, as they cant be built after you build one of them already.
The radius of the Brazier is more or less the default landclaim raidus, a little less. The radius of the Tent is 1/5th of the radius of the Brazier, and only allow for campfire, bedroll (secondary spawnpoint to be technical), standing torch simple (not the iron one) and fish/shellfish net. The Brazier only limits the radius but not what can be built.
Once you have built anything around a brazier, it is locked and can only be destroyed or picked up once you destroyed everything that have been built around it. Same goes for the tent.
===================================================
Roadmap is set to include in the future:
- Admin setting for the number of items individually (number of braziers and number of tents) per clan (not per player).
- Varying Radius for both, following the rule that Brazier will be X radius and tent will be 1/5th of that.
- A secondary outpost FBA item, probably half the radius of the Brazier, intended to be one outpost.
What is not being made in this mod is automated distribution or moderation of it, because that does not fall under its systems.
I tend to limit hard edits to small mods, and automation does not require hard edits but require dozens of blueprints, so this mod (Law and Order) requires hard edits, and therefore I strive to not put features that require too many blueprints so they arent a PITA to update once the game is patched or updated.
You do understand that the game has 2 teleport systems, wheels of pain etc…
Not allowing to people to build their “needs” for a small period of time, will make your effort “less desirable”. You have to figure out a way to implement all the game “needs” on building restrictions. So my suggestion is to allow more builds but with 48 hours decay system. It’s enough time for someone to take what he-she needs from an area.
I like the fact that you do have permission for 2 main builds, it’s more than enough.
How you’ll handle the “clan” issue? If a clan is big the radius should change, so the bigger the population (of players) , the bigger the radius .
Last but not least, did it crossed your mind to use the wealth of a clan to change the limits of your radius. The more you have the greatest the radius.
The teleport systems, the ability to build everywhere, etc, all fine and dandy. This mod was created exactly to contain expansion. So if you want people in your server to build all over, this is not the mod for you.
For the other points, I dont really know from where it is coming, as that is not the dynamic at all.
People can get a Brazier AND a Tent, which are two things for two distinct aims.
The Brazier is the base center, so to speak. When a player puts a FBA brazier, they can build around it in a circle area of a certain radius comparable to Claim distance. It does not matter what you build.
The Tent is meant to be a smaller camp that allows people to build camp fires, fishing and a bedroll to not constrain too much the fact that they can have only one base. So if you are elsewhere, and nobody has built in that area, you can build a camp to immediate needs.
In both cases, to change the places of FBA items you need to remove everything you built.
This is EXACTLY the same thing people do manually in many servers, requesting that people build a sign and put there, Idk, last login, name, etc.
I just have an item to do all the data collection via system, so the admin knows where people’s bases are, and if they are camping somewhere.
I dont need to handle in my mod anything more than the game already handles. Not in this mod anyways.
If the land claim radius is X, the Brazier radius is almost that same X. A measure I derived from the rule some servers I liked have to avoid people building things at “radius length” to bother others.
But the system does not change anything the regular game doesnt in terms of size of construction on the Brazier.
The tent is not meant to be “another base” so it is not meant to allow to build one.
And “crossed my mind”, and the many peoples’ minds from the servers I took inspiration from to make the mod.
But there is another issue that might not have crossed YOUR mind:
This mod is not make the players happy, it is made to make the admins happy. So it restricts things. Restricting things often doesnt make restricted people happy, so I dont really mean to.
When the concern is about the admin side, then it is a problem.
The main goal of this feature is exactly about people getting a free pass on litering because they are “rich”, or that people band together to bother people who prefer to play alone in a server.
And it also has aims and goals that I have chosen as design choices. Many of them are in the class of “if you dont like it, dont use it”. I have many mods, and this one has a specific function. It is a specific mod, not added to others for that reason. People are free not to use it.
Same thing about the NoSciMap. It removes the map. If you want the map, dont use it.
Same thing about the NoSciFiUI. It removes the UI because I dont like it. If one wants the UI, they should not use it.
That is the beauty of making many mods instead of a big ugly mess of features tucket in a gigantic heavy mod that has many things and people have to live with one if they want another.
Choices, while I agree that Morpheus was wrong that everything begins with a choice, I do agree that “as he adequately put, the problem IS choice”.
Well done, congratulations!
Yet the only reason i do this discussion it’s just an effort to make it more flexible and viable for all the aspects of the game. We both know that an admin in a private server will definitely place map rooms in each obelisk, but the meaning of transportory stones is to get you in to your base, not close to it.
So if you could bypass the function of transportory stones and each player could see only the stone of his house in a “public” transportory stone then sorcery would be in complete function.
Then again, bedrolls! Bedrolls are a necessary mechanism of the game, you cannot contain it on building restrictions. You could bypass again their function, give them freedom of placing, even in dungeons, disable the building claim function and give them standard decay timer 2 hours.
My suggestions are just to make the user to feel free playing your mod. To say wow Funcom should do this!!!
Ps. I am not playing smart here, i just try to help if possible, i really hope you understand my intentions.
A admin does not need to worry themselves about it.
They can spawn an item called “builder permit” which is a blanket permit to build anywhere.
They can use it themselves or give it to someone.
Again, This mod is for admins.
And again, If the servers only allows one base, why should it allow “multi base items”.
What you dont seem to get is that this mod is made to LIMIT. IT is not made to give people freedom. I know “Northfolk” has a hard time understanding the need of it, but some do.
IF the admin wants to do anything, for any reason, they are admins, they can.
The mod name, the mod thumb, the mod ethos, they all tell you one thing:
“My server, my rules, do you want to play it, fine. Dont want ? There are many littered servers around for you to choose from.”
This is not a mod for people who think “the more options, the more freedom the better”. I dont need to make a mod on that premise because most mods are made on that premise.
Stack size doubles, triples, build anywhere, fly, auto teleport magic no drawback, remove mount stamina, etc. All these mods have the “oh, players should do more”.
This mode ethos is “players should do less”.
You can argue as much as you like, the mode does what it is meant to do.
Dont like, dont use it.
To keep the game “as it is” by definition, I would not use a mod.
