Wouldn’t it be nice if they didn’t have to force us, though? I mean, I already do all of that anyway.
I already go on Unnamed City runs. Most of the time it’s when I’m bored of whatever else I’m doing and I decide to go to the City for a change. Other times it’s because I want to farm up something I can find there, like fragments of power.
Similarly, I engage with the 3-skull bosses either for fun and variety, or because I need a resource (e.g. ichor).
When you have to pressure someone into engaging with your gameplay loop, it’s time to ask yourself whether there’s something you could actually improve about that loop, rather than trying to force your players into it.
Maybe this will foster some trading, who knows. Maybe I’m biased, but I think that what would help establish more trade is giving us features that allow us to set up shops and trading posts, but this might help too.
On the other hand, I’m cynical enough to believe that we’ll merely see our thralls end up with the nice toys that we can’t have and we’ll end up complaining some more about how we’re playing as sidekicks to our own minions…
But maybe I should shut up about that, or Funcom will decide to “fix” that by making thralls damage the durability of their gear…
