It’s not impossible. Maybe for Funcom but not as a general VC to RWM thing.
Virtual Currency Refunds
In December 2021, I purchased (for the first time ever) crowns for ESO. Prior to that, the only crowns I had received came from my subscriber membership but that Christmas I was feeling happy with the game, looking forward to some datamined things, and decided to buy crowns during their holiday sale.
A few weeks later, the next dev stream released in which they laid out their plans to basically rewrite achievements to be global on your account, something they’d promised never to do. I reached out and requested a refund for my crowns. Since I hadn’t yet spent any, they were able to refund the RWM and remove the crowns from my in-game account without issue. I also quit playing the game and haven’t regretted that choice yet.
So yes, companies with properly thought out policies CAN refund virtual currency back to real world money, if they choose to do so.
