I was fighting the crocodile world boss near the twice drowned vault and lost internet connection for less than 5 minutes. When I logged back in, I had gotten killed but respawned further north on a different beach. Luckily I got to my body in time to get my things. It sent my follower home though. It sounds like you were killed and respawned at one of the 4 possible beach spots, that all seems normal and no reason to worry. Glad to see your Thralls are back home too.
