It’s running on a Linux container on Proxmox, the container is running Ubuntu 22.04
The Proxmox server is using an Intel Xeon E5-2470v2 (10 core hyperthreaded 2.4 Ghz) with 64 GB of DDR3 RAM (Dell PowerEdge R320)
The container has 16 cores, 8 GB of RAM, 8 GB of swap, and 40 GB of SSD storage
So far the server has only had me connected to it locally from my desktop (1 user), and has a 1 GB LAN connection
I am not having issues getting the server to show up on the public list, and I’m not having issues getting initially connected to the server.
The issue is extreme server lag. Constant rubber banding, when I pick up items/chop trees/rocks I notice that the items don’t go into my inventory for several seconds, then all at once they go into my inventory and I wind up somewhere else -OR- I lose my connection from the server.
I’ve tried turning up/down my tick rate (15,30,60, and 90). I’ve tried cranking my bandwidth up. I’ve tried the -LANPLAY switch on startup.
Running out of ideas, I’ll try anything at this point.
Nevermind, I don’t think this is a software issue. I performed a ping with the software not running and it’s dropping packets about every 30 seconds or so. I got something else going on.
So in the end, the solution makes absolutely no sense, but the actual local IP I assigned the container was dropping pings. I picked another IP and everything is working again. Very odd.
Of all things, what put me on the scent was trying to upload logs to a pastebin, it kept failing and I began to chase that problem down.
