So, I was trying to roleplay and add a bit of lore to my character by utilizing the craftable journal for the first time and it was neat! After I wrote in the thing though, I decided I would pick it up and carry it with me until I wanted to write in it again. What a mistake that was! After I placed the journal back down and began to write in it once again, to my horror, everything I had written was gone! After some testing, I learned that any text you write in your journal stays so long as it is not returned to your inventory. Once it is, anything you write in it vanishes! WHY??? What is the point of keeping an in-game journal if the text is just going to disappear all because I wanted to pick it up? Can we please get an update that ensures our text remains even if we return it to our inventory? It would also be nice to have the ability to rename the journal itself, that may even be an easy solution to the problem. This was looking to be such a cool feature too. You cannot even begin to imagine how bummed out I was after seeing how everything I wrote was gone. Good thing I took a screenshot!

That’s the only way so far. Sometimes the text will vanish after a while, even if you don’t pick it up. Always take that screenshot.
The player and editable having a diary that counted the days since you created your character would be awesome.

Yeah i learned that the hard way too.
But instead of making a screenshot, which would me type everything again case i lost the information, i just copy+paste the whole information into windows editor and save it in case i need it again.
Saved my some headache

I’m on console, so I don’t even have that option.

I have had numerous journals sitting around for literal years and never seen that happen a single time.

Well, good for you, @Tephra . It already happened a handful of times me, rather recently.
I wonder if where I place them matters…

Nope, Playstation single player “matters”. On official servers the text is saved, on single player it doesn’t. So i stop doing it years now. It’s funny that it’s not fixed yet since 2020 that i did it the last time.

I have some that survive the passage of time. But some don’t @stelagel . Online I don’t write journals so I have no clue.

Consider your self lucky. I use to loose them after 5 or 6 days. So i quit this role play effort.
