Not gonna lie, a map based on some war-torn Khitan province like the Chosain region in Age of Conan populated by neutral soldiers and villagers and aggressive bandits, army deserters, and foreign mercenaries would be pretty awesome.
I would love them to pump put new maps with particular territorial themes.
But we will probly end up with a map with multiple biomes which is fine too.
Just don’t fill it with the same stuff (factions, thralls and beasts)
One approach would be for Funcom to release a Conan Exiles 2 in the same way that Blizzard is doing Overwatch 2. i.e. An updated engine capable of handling the current world plus additional larger areas, and Funcom honoring past DLC purchases by reprising them in the new game at no additional charge.
This might help to bypass the limitations of the current UEngine because they’d no longer be trying to bolt more parts onto it. It would also be a nice incentive to those who have supported the original to have all their paid content carry over into a new game.
Well, I would actually like them to fill it with the same stuff (factions, thralls, and beasts), but flesh them out more.
New factions added with the old ones.
New thralls (and thrall types) added with the old ones.
New beasts added with the old ones.
I’d also like to see some natural disasters added:
Sandstorms, but more types too (snowstorms, blizzards, acid rain, flooding, mudslides, and so forth); perhaps sun flare activity that bathes the surface of the region in fire (forcing people and animals to take shelter underground or in thick-walled bases or really good shadows)
Animal kingdom threats (killer bees, bird swarm attacks (like Hitchcock’s Birds), and so forth – not in fixed locations nor just coming to player’s base, but random, world events) – such as an animal Purge on a patrol path throughout an entire biome
Plant kingdom threats (like giant vampire ‘Venus Flytraps’, or strangle vines, or something like Kudzu that could overgrow a base in a full day - forcing doors to stay shut until removed and maybe hiding a base or ruins due to the overgrowth)
Wouldnt this be biting off a much bigger project when they’d like to be getting moving on Dune? My understanding is that Dune leverages the general Conan Exiles model, so likely a lot of the same people would be involved.
See the lag? 17 and 14 hours respectively? I played through most of Raid, napped, and still I’m ruminating.
In-game, I’ve been focusing on more mobility lately in order to really stress myself out on the map. And you know what? The map is more than adequate, even with a horse and obelisks, even with all the new building going on.
However, when I stop testing and just get back to playing, I realize that all of my annoying quest-like chores are now easy fun adventures with my noble equine pals Rigel or Roddy. Even interbase jaunts are simple. In other words, mounts have made many things much, much easier. I suspect for many game consumers, this will raise the mundaneness level considerably.
Therefore a new map instantly snaps into place to meet this need. To me, all these steps so far seem like a roadmap is being followed. So far, if the new and returning (YAAAAY!) playerbase and overall excitement is a guide, Funcom is following a successful and well-considered roadmap.
Does that make sense? It seems as if steps are being taken: mounts are introduced and the map “shrinks,” necessitating a new map, which will inevitably inject new life into the game. New map keeps us playing, the studio still working, and our pals drinking the finest lagers instead of the green-can swill.
I think what I hear you saying is that there is no need for a Conan Exiles 2 when we are still on course to have all that was planned for Conan Exiles I. I agree with that.
I’d actually like to see packs of yamatai/khitani exiles in the NE. With corresponding architecture and whatnot. Toss in a few new dungeons, and another friendly city and I’m game.
