Which games multiply the rewards based on the number of participants? I do not believe this is common practice. “Okay, who should get the Ring of Protection +1?” is a common problem with just about every D&D group.

If you go to the Wine Cellar as a group of three, only one of you can get a scythe, yes. But as a group you complete the cellar a lot faster, and with less risk, than a solo player, so you can probably run the dungeon three times as easily as a solo player runs it once, netting you thrice the exp and thrice the chances for loot. So there’s still a reward for playing as a team.
