New tether ruins getting thralls

Game mode: Online private
Type of issue: Bug
Server type: PvE
Region: Canada

While trying to get a named thrall the strange weird tether makes it all most impossible to get a thrall, you get them almost at the end of the bar and puff they run off back to their spawn point like a little cry baby, every time over and over and over. Its made it the most unfun thing in the game. Getting a named thrall is a week job as every time you get them almost down puff home they run.

Does this make any sense at all, it seems to be a way to make the game longer and longer as every thrall takes you hours

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Find a thrall you want
  2. Try to knock out said thrall
  3. Hours later still trying as the thrall is a scary cat and runs home to spawn point over and over and over whenever they feel like it and you can hit them all the time they are running home and they just instant heal to 100 % till they are back at their tether point and you start over , over and over.
  4. Wonder who thought this was a fun addition to the game, for me it has made one of the best parts of the game very very unenjoyable as it is not in any way a good addition if this is intended!!

If I seem upset I am , I have a ton of time in this game but now its like so frustrating to try and play the game, it takes forever to get thralls. This new tether is not a enjoyable addition in any way and it just makes it seem like you want the game to be harder not more enjoyable.

Is this the intended way of play that the tether is so messed up that it will take hours to put a thrall on the wheel.

Get a bow with a blunted weapon kit attached and blunted arrows. Climb somewhere that the desired thrall cannot get to. Fire away!

Make certain no archers are close to you desired thrall.

When the npc runs back to their starting/spawn spot the blue bar does not regenerate. At least it doesn’t for me on test live.

Hope this helps make your thrall catching easier and less time consuming.

Which thrall are you having so much trouble with? I’m asking because I haven’t had any trouble yet, so I’m genuinely curious about your situation.

Ever since they implemented the tether, whenever I see a thrall I want, I simply make sure to kill other NPCs around him and then I can knock him out at leisure. If I have a good enough armor and a Lovetap, I might not even kill the surrounding NPCs first, but rather knock everything out and then kill the ones I don’t want.

Any named thrall, I really do not want to go in to Set City and kill every thrall around any of the named thralls in the city over and over so I can get a thrall, once upon a time before this weird tether you could pull your thrall and capture them without killing a whole village or a whole city. You could also pull out a thrall not the whole village if you were sneaky , now if you happen to find the named thrall you want you have to kill everything then try for the thrall and if he gets bored or whatever it is they do , they just puff run home you can be in the middle of hitting them.

I am in a new game and not level 60 so no love tap. It is not the equipment, I enjoy the art of thralling it in the past was one of my favorite things in the game but it is not an art anymore its a kill every thing but one and then keep chasing him home till you get him down if you can. Its very time intensive and boring , there is no joy in a good job, a sneaky time, its run and hit and chase over and over.

Please do not take this the wrong way but this is not an issue of me not knowing what equipment to use or how to knock out a thrall.

At level 30 with an Iron Truncheon I have never had an issue knocking out any named thrall with a little time and effort.

I thank you for the suggestion but I do not enjoy capturing a thrall in that way, do not like bows and enjoy to use a Truncheon and have never had an issue putting a thrall on the friend wheel till this tether, its way to short and its instant , you can chase and hit the npc over and over and they pay you no mind and many times just warp home.

I didn’t mean to suggest that. I’m sorry if it came across that way. I just wanted to know what made things different for you.

I created a new character on a different server a few weeks ago, so I had to go through the leveling process again. One of the big differences is that I can’t just walk into any place I want and get what I want from there. The level progression is quite a bit more nuanced than it used to be.

I think the difference between us here is that I see this as a good change and you don’t. I like it that different factions and camps now have more meaning than before.

I guess that we do see things different, the tether to me is another way to cheese bosses and npcs, you run away they follow a tiny way they port home and you are home free is how that feels for me. It feels cheesy, before they would chase the butt off me and I had to really pay attention to how I played, now I just run and I am faster so they tether home but for thralling its now you will need to kill a village to get one thrall, then you can only lead them around a tiny bit or they tether home, that is not skill is it, its just frustrating to have to run after your thrall hitting him while he just pretends no one is hitting him over the head and goes back to sit at his starting point. I am sorry it seems like I all I need to do kill every thing around him then hit him till he is down and hope he does not port home in the middle of the tame which seems they all do.

I just do not find that at all nuanced as far as the level progression, it feels frustrating to not have to use skill to get my thralls.

Once a Set priest in Set city chased me though the city kicking my butt left and right as I tried to tame, best fight ever, not once did he run home, or port anywhere, he was a fight, a real battle, those daggers of his bleeding me down almost dead, the run around to heal as he chased. Best tame ever that type of thing is no longer possible as the tether , I move to heal and just puff he is home and I am on the other side of the city alone.

You are right I do not enjoy this in any way, I feel like I am cheating myself as it makes it so easy to run away from harder enemies now , run away and come back at full heath, no worries they be the same place waiting for you just with full heath and it ruins the thrill of a real tame you worked for!

The only thing that resets it’s the health, not the knocked out bar, so even if you run away and they reset, you can still continue where you left off, if you are trying to knocked them out that is.
With that said, this is not a bug and should be move to general discussion as the bug you are describing is a game mechanic. @Hugo

Hey Heaventhere , I understand your point of view, but I really enjoy the new tether for a couple of reasons , the first one being that no good intended people cannot kite a boss from all accross the map to the thralls of others ( placed as guardian in front of bases ) in order to kill the thrall and loot it , since now the boss will return home before reaching said base ( if you think having a well equiped thrall with crom and good armor suffice to counter said behaviour , I’ve seen in the past “trolls” kitting bosses repeatedly to a single thrall in order to kill it , the first 2 bosses lost to the thrall , but as it starts to have no more food in inventory , and the owner being offline (so no healing arrows) , in the end the thrall will die . now this has been made impossible . Thank you Funcom !

Also you are speaking of sepemeru , witch is a big city filled of npc’s , of course now that the others npc’s react to you hitting their “colleague” , the fight to get a T4 will aggro more people to you than before , and the fight will be more intense. I do feel this as a good thing too , since before you could kill an npc 4 meters away from another , and it would not even react to his friend being murdered , which was a bit weird in my opinion ( he screams to death and no one in the village react ? )

I know I am lvl 60 with the best gear and all , but what I wanted to say at last was , why do you fight your T4 so far from it’s spawn location then ? if you stay within the area he spawns in , he will not start to run away home , since you already are near his “home” i understand that sometimes you need to recover from an attack and move a little , but you can go in circles to avoid getting to far from the location ? ( this is a genuine question , not te be taken badly  )

I have no trouble getting named thralls in a group. the truncheon (lovetap included) has an AOE effect when you swing it. If timed right, using roll, i usually knock out any lower levels that stick there nose in the scuffle i am having. They usually get knocked well before the named, thus after 3 or 4 swings it is just me and the named (or should i say me and my new “friend”). so advice is to go in tnak mode (if you are not using a thrall to help you) and just get practice at timing swings and aligning any thralls who get involved so you can hit multiple at a time to clear the objective.

Heaven, you can easily get Szeth’s at level 30 with any thrall. It may be worth your time

See https://conanexiles.gamepedia.com/Truncheon for a list of the relative concussive damages; it’s an expandable a bit down the page.

lol not taken badly but I have thousands of hours in this game, I do know how to thrall and all the tricks, like how to pull a thrall out of set city sneaky and slowly one at a time without having to kill every thing, or how to weed out the thralls you do not want so that you do not have to murder half a city to do it. Or even how to keep a thrall engaged so they will not run home, I am not a newbie at this.

So you think its right that you can be in the middle of hitting an npc and all of a sudden he decides he is done and just runs home all the while you are hitting him on the head and he seems to not feel it just that need to go home??? That seems right? Or that when he does port home his health and topar bar are both at full , that does not seem right, I just had his half down and now he is full every thing??? This seems normal or intended to you? I know how to run around and put a thrall down, thralling use to be about skill. NO skill needed to kill a village and then beat down a lone thrall that is if he happens to not port home and heal.

I have put many thralls on the wheel be I be level 15 or level 60 from all factions and never had one port home in the middle of me hitting them and heal full. Well not till this very strange tether system was put in, for me it feels like a bug. I have had a thrall maybe 20 feet from his base and half down and he just true in middle of a hit and run home and heal. That is not normal in my mind.

I have been playing long enough to know how to thrall really this is not normal. Thralls are not suppose to instant heal and have their topar bar full as soon as they port to their respawn. Also I have never needed to thrall to help me knock out a new thrall, you all are treating this as if I do not know how to thrall lol. So frustrating.

Excuse me , are you part of Funcom? Or are you the bug report police, I feel this is a bug and do not want it moved I want funcom to address it as it is not normal for a thrall to port home an heal health and topar. So if you would let funcom address this that would be great. Let them answer thank you.

Thank you Jim1, I know about Szeth’s but this is not a thruncheon issue its more with how the thrall behaves and ports home in middle of tame.

I am certain you did not mean for this to come off as demeaning as it sounds to a person who is trying to help you. In addition, requesting direct answers from Funcom for this type of issue is a bit, shall we say, presumptuous?

I fully agree with Lorail about the appropriate forum.

Good luck with your problem, but given the (perhaps misunderstanding) of the attitude, I’m outta here.

+1, me too. Try and help, and just negativity.

They weren’t supposed to, but they are now. That was an intentional change they made.

I understand your frustration, but I honestly think you’re misjudging everyone’s intentions here. All the advice given seems to be aimed at helping you adjust to the new way of playing.

We’ve both been on here long enough to see that Funcom only tweaks their changes in response to an overwhelming outcry. Since I don’t see many people voicing the same frustration about the thralling process, the most likely outcome is that Funcom won’t change their mechanics and you’ll keep being frustrated until you either get used to it or quit. I can’t speak for everyone else, but my impulse is to try to write something that will tilt that situation towards the “get used to it” end of the spectrum

I’ve never had to take an npc that far from his/her spawn point to knock them out… I’ve never had this problem fortunately so I suggest you just go gung-ho and start swinging at everyone in the area. Good luck fella!

Your feelings are irrelevant on this case, I’m not here to cause you grief or anything similar, you are calling a game mechanic a bug and dismiss everyone’s advice just because you are not getting your way. That’s the incorrect way to go about this, also demanding an answer from Funcom? Sure…

Either way, I will follow the rest of the folks here and leave you be.
