On the concept of true barbarism

Hello,

I’m a player who’s spent nearly 1,000 hours enjoying Conan Exiles. I’ve had a great time with the game overall, but I’ve been reflecting on some areas that could use improvement, so this is my first post on the forums.

Title: Nerf Explosives, Buff Siege Weapons, and Improve Survival/Immersion

  1. Nerf Explosive Jars and buff catapults/battering rams.

In PvP, players often feel less like barbarians and more like Bomberman characters from old arcade games. Blowing up bases with explosives just doesn’t fit the Conan lore or immersion. The addition of trebuchets/catapults in previous patches was a welcome change, but I’d love to see more players using them instead of spam-bombing. Personally, I’d rather smash structures with siege engines. It’d also be great if low-level players could craft simple battering rams early on—they’re basic designs, yet we have to buy them with gold. Allowing low-level players to build crude rams would spark more PvP action even at low levels, creating wild, barbaric chaos.

  1. Bat spell removes the purpose of building walls.

Building massive walls in Conan Exiles is incredibly satisfying—they’re meant to block player invasions and NPCs. But with the bat spell, anyone can hop over them effortlessly. Even placing archers on top feels pointless outside PvP hours; defenders just ignore incoming bats until bomb-planting time. It turns barbarians into stealth helicopter spies. On PvP servers, I want to see my base get wrecked by battering rams and catapults, not sabotage.

  1. Weakened survival system.

I fondly remember the early days: scavenging grubs for hunger, scrambling for shelter from sandstorms, and barely surviving. That raw struggle was pure fun. But now, survival feels faded. Head north a bit, and sandstorms vanish; hunger/thirst bars stay full indefinitely like a bug. The tension is gone, and other players don’t fill the void. The old Purge system auto-triggered destruction when the meter filled, keeping things tense. Now it’s optional, so the thrill of building and defending feels less urgent. (PvE players wanting safe storage are the exception, of course.)

  1. Thralls should help with gathering.

Leading by example is noble, but solo resource grinding is tedious. Seeing my thralls idle while I slave away is frustrating. At minimum, let them auto-gather basics like stone or wood.

  1. More temperature-resistant clothing and armor.

Vanir fur armor used to provide solid cold resistance, but it’s been heavily nerfed. Now, options are limited to Silent Legion gear and a few legendaries. This makes Silent Legion armor mandatory, killing clothing variety.

  1. Random hostile NPC raids.

The revamped Purge is clean and efficient, but I miss the old one. For light tension, small groups of humanoid NPCs randomly raiding bases or chasing players would be exciting.

  1. NPC outposts.

The Almeria siege content was fantastic—perfect for trying siege weapons. How about adding small NPC outposts? With declining player numbers on official servers, these could fill the empty spaces and vacant areas on the Exiled Lands and Siptah. The world feels too devoid of player traces and built structures without enough people; NPCs occupying these spots would make exploration and sieges much more lively.

Thanks to everyone who reads this with interest. I’d appreciate your thoughts and feedback!

Bettering Rams are craftable, but the recipe can only be acquired from purges, which are also not really early game. I think a primitive ram variant that does less damage, but is craftable without rare resources and can be unlocked through normal knowledge progression could be viable.

I have no opinion on nerfing bombs, I do not play PvP.

I would not remove the bat, but I think summoning a bat demon that does not immediately try to kill its summoner should be a third-tier spell.

In my opinion, requiring a chalk circle to summon the abyssal mounts makes them useless-adjacent, and I think they should replace the bat as second-tier demonology spells from the staff.

I think most players agree that the survival aspect of the game has greatly diminished over time. Perhaps there are some who think that is a good thing, but Conan is a survival game, so those who don’t like it are in the wrong genre.

Not indefinite and not a bug. If you fill them to 100%, they stay at 100% for ten minutes and give you a bonus to your max health (food) or max stamina (water). Very much intentional.

It was a good idea before they made golems that actually do that and show how obnoxious they are. I do not support any further auto-gathering than we’ve already got. I could be ok with building some sort of object that creates resources, but no more of this followers of people who are not even online sitting on the resource nodes nonsense.

Armorers used to give resistance bonuses. I miss those…

Roving gangs has been a feature Funcom wanted to implement for a long time, probably as long as living settlements. If they do implement them, they better make sure the game is ready to handle them - unlike what happened with living settlements.

I think al-Merayah should come back as a rotating event. Not identical to what it was, as the old fortress was bad for performance, but clean up the bugs, do an optimization pass, reduce the respawn rates, scale down the size, and rearrange the loot to make valuable loot less easy to snatch with low risk and a higher incentive to fight the boss.

Welcome to the game then. Any suggestion that erases mechanisms is a wrong suggestion.

Any suggestion that nerfs anything is a wrong suggestion again.

You have no Idea what anticlimb system existed before the bat mechanism and how this was literally destroying the gaming experience.

Pvp servers already struggle to perform .

But i am happy you took time and applied your feedback it’s really appreciated fellow exile.

Welcome to the game mate :sign_of_the_horns: .

Good suggestions. No one here knows anything about what FC is planning to do with the game. There’s “suppose” to be an announcement soon about 2026, and 2025 was suppose to be a whole year of bug fixing, but in all honesty it has been a very small list of fixes for a whole year and felt quite anticlimactic to most.

Let’s hope for a different 2026.

Oh man, if I started about what I would change on pvp. It’s an aberration, mostly. Base building is little more than using whatever method isn’t yet considered an exploit. By this, I mean using pieces that weren’t meant to be used like that. Base raiding meta is offline raiding. Combat is fun, but the lack of balanced builds forces every player to chose mostly a couple. I won’t even go into the rampant hacking problem that plagues the game…

These are the problems. The suggestions would need devs to be way more active than they are now for me to even bother. There"s no easy fixing. If you want to play pvp, my best advice is doing so in another game or finding a good private server.

Presently, and since I am on console, beyond crafting my own adventures in heavily curated single player games, I find litle fun elsewhere. But those single player games are a lot of fun. I discovered how to sell thralls to myself now lol
