Anybody who knows anything about the Mythological Greek Gods should pretty much remember who “Apollo” is. So, on that note I’m just going to drop this screenshot here of something that recently caught my attention.
From what I can determine, what was done was intentional for very subtle reasons.

Lovely perks mate, can you please give me some info of how you grow this fellow, what kind of food you used while leveling him up, where did you train him? Did you use sorcery potions to fix his lovely perks?

I am well aware of the name being not entirely exclusive to boys names …
especially considering the more recent events.
Apollonia is a feminine rendering of the name and it’s well accepted through history.
Granted, Apollo (the dog) appears to be female (in so much it lacks testicles and the extra package as such that came with horses). I guess that puts Apollo in one of the other categories.
But just for the sake of argument: Look up Greek Gods and their namesakes and gender types. Not all are exclusive mind you considering gender identity.
However, for “Apollo” .. that was a subtle change and I’m surprised nobody has caught that yet. Silly me, I just caught that today after several months.

“Playful pup” you can pick up from a small encampment of 3 Stygians near the Den of the Wolfmen. There are three "Playful Pup"s there.
Their preferred meat is savory flesh.
You won’t know their names until you put them in the pen and begin taming them.
The two we have are Apollo and Thor. Of which Thor is referred to as “he” exclusively.
(Two Greek Gods. Go figure).
Also, they respawn after a while usually with a different name.
It seems almost consistent with the (simple) taming pen producing a named dog, but not entirely consistent.

The ‘playful pups’ are numbered (in a way that is visible only in admin mode), with each number referring to a specific named animal that it will grow into (so it can be judged in advance, but only as an admin/cheat). There’s a total of 5 or 6 of them (I forget which), all are available in specific locations on Siptah. They are sort of like an early prototype for the companions, in that each has specific perks that it will gain when it levels. For instance, Brutus has the highest damage output, but is a bit of a glass cannon, with (iirc) three pure strength perks. Oscar was my personal favourite - good strength, but also decent health. Koji (or the other one if I’ve forgotten the sixth) was the weakest at the time, with a significant boost to ‘Survival’ - which gives an idea of how long it has been since I last collected them - I don’t know if they received any update after the stats were changed. This being CE I doubt it…

Thanks for mentioning those names. I remember them now having had them before in previous playthroughs in the past. I think there are 6 total.
Non of which were ever admin spawned by us.

But that name rings a bell in my brain, bringing up Rhode Island.

Ah, well, it turns out we were both wrong (age or time both dim memories, sad to say 
)- checking the wiki, there are in fact 7 - Aries and Sigrid being the missing two. Looking at the table there, it seems they did get their perks updated after all, so they remain far superior to any other pet available. (Viewing the perks it looks like Oskar (I remembered the spelling wrong) lost out a bit in the changes - good strength and vit, but loses some grit, where Apollo, Thor and Aries seem to do well in all three areas.)

That would be an incorrect assumption, I have known about that for years.
I also know that Koji is referred to as a big boy in the second perk and as her in the third perk.
Brutus is available in a specific location, all of the others are randomized.
All pet stats were changed with the attribute update. They used a script to do it with no finesse. That is why many pets have messed up diets now.

Where would we be without one? ( A band named The Dog Apollo).
Ares, Sigrid, Koji, Apollo, Oskar, and Thor… which I believe are all from the same location, just RNG on which pup will spawn. Brutus is in the main Corsair camp in a cage in a pit.

Indeed Rhodes is the island of Helios (Sun), we still call Rhodes this way…
“Το νησί του ήλιου”
But Helios was a lower rank god, imagine that the high rank gods was the ones who were living on Olympus mountain only or posses a “chair” in the council, for example Poseidon hardly visited Olympus . So because of the beauty of the island and the finest grapes the 2 competitive gods of Olympus was Dionysos and Apollo. Apollo win more love and devotion from Rhodians so they made him many acropolis temples in the island.
The one remains today (some pillars that have scaffolding around) is over the ancient theater and stadium.
Fair to mention that Apollo was a peaceful god, a fair god that had humongous understanding in human weaknesses. The greatest ancient city that Apollo was worshipped was Troy.
My dear brother @Vahlok Thor was worshipped a little northern from ancient Greece, his grace was living in Asgard if i am not mistaken. I know very little from the great Scandinavian mythology and unfortunately the most i know that’s probably incorrect is from movies and games that defile mythology for a great scenario.
