[PC] Bug - NPC weapon swapping

I provide an NPC with a set of armour and a sword and shield. I place a bow in there inventory for ranged combat. I place gruel in the remaining four slots. After a short time the NPC becomes bugged it will have the sword and bow equipped at the same time and will be trying to shoot arrows at point blank range.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Equip NPC 1h + shield
  2. Place bow and 4 stacks of gruel in invenory
  3. Start combat
  4. Laugh
