Bug Description:
Players can’t build anymore after placing a new bed
Bug Reproduction:
We have a very strange issue since Age of Heroes that players often can’t build anymore, especially after placing a bed. It happens on a private server with the Empires of Stygia Map/Mod. But on Admins Unites also reported it sometimes happens on vanilla servers. The modder of Empires of Stygia, Snowhunter, also was able to directly reproduce it in the Devkit. He told me to report it to Funcom as in his opinion must be an issue inside the base game. The bug can be directly forced by placing a new bed. The a server restart alone doesn’t help. You must remove the bed and then restart the server. Reproducing it on Stygia is quite easy: 1. Place a new bed. (beds placed before Age of Hero don’t make problems btw) 2. If you now try to place a foundation, you already notice a very big area around the bed, where the game doesn’t allow placements and says “building here would block your spawn point”. 3. Restart the server and try to place a foundation. now the “building here would block…” doesn’t appear, but when you try to place the foundation, the material is consumed but nothing is built. The server log then says building:Warning: Code: ABuildingBase::CleanupEmptyBuildings - Found an empty building after loading, destroying it: /Game/Mods/Stygia/Maps/EmpireOfStygia.EmpireOfStygia:PersistentLevel.BP_BuildFoundation_C_24 4. the only way to solve this issue, is to delete the bed AND restart the server. Then building again is possible. If you place a bedroll instead of a bed, all is ok, so only beds placed after Age of Heroes seem to trigger this bug.
I had this message “building here would block your spawn point” with the bed also on official, I found it weird but did not take much notice forgot about it until I saw your post.
I cannot remember what I did but it would not go away.
Had this again on official but remembered to get screenshots this time
I had placed a bed on the first floor behind me and as you can see I have a second layer, it would not let me place a piece here so I removed the bed and was still getting this.
I know this is another issue but was strange that I was unable to place build pieces and yet could place a placeable.
I logged back in and was able to build above the bed this time so is not an issue that is persistant across logins.
However I found myself stuck to the centre and was unable to move more than a few steps where I was brought back to starting point, I had to remove bracelet to be able to play.
For people having a similar problem on official servers it doesn’t help, but for our Stygia Server I found a workaround.
Maybe this might at least help others who also have this on modded servers until there is an offical fix.
The workaround is with the mod “Lesser Building Placement Restrictions” by MultiGun, workshp id 1369743238.
If you have this mod installed go into it’s admin settings.
There look at the section “Placeables Ground (Everyone)” and enable the option “Allow Placeables and Buildings Near or On Beds”.
Since we did this, no problems anymore with beds. Players now can always build.
If it is somehow a base game bug then there is something about Stygia that makes it worse. I can 100% reproduce this every time when on Stygia and it sometimes happens when you’ve never added a bed.
I have not been able to reproduce it on any other map. I’ve tried on officials and privates alike and can’t get it to happen on any map but Stygia.
Has not always been this way cause i and others had bases there we built without issues. I’m unsure of when it started cause i hadn’t built there in quite a while. So it could be since the hot patch or could be since AoH start. I am unsure.
Yes I only started getting this with AOH, the weirdest one was when I tried to place chests out in the open and I received this, sometimes I can stand anywhere and place an item then when I try to place an item in a placer closer to the first item having not moved I get this message also.
I am wondering if it is a knockon effect from placing bombs, as this is when it really helps for pvp as placing a large amount of bombs in a small place is difficult now which fro the defenders is great, as you cannot just go boom boom
When it happens to me it stops me building on most of the map but for some reason I can build in the southern and western most areas only until after reset.
It’s very strange.
