There are many items which would seem quite easily made functional that are merely cosmetic… i.e. Sleeping Furs, various “containers”…which are not.
It is EXTREMELY frustrating that you made the Aesir BLacksmith Bench only basic… please flip the magic FunCom switch and make that an Advanced Bench please? We’d also love to see additional groups represented.
And Finally… You have a VERY dedicated and talented community of modders. Why not bring some of the best ones into the base game? “Beyond” immediately comes to mind (as in Beyond Rustic). That would IMMEDIATELY create some sales for youif you aquired them and sold them in the bazaar. Not to mention the many great weapons out there like One Handed Spears, Quarterstaves… How about some “Barehanded” weapons for those who would like to have an unarmed combat play? It seems like a no-brainer when you have people looking like Muay Thai Fighters…
Well.. if they were for sale, it still gets complicated with these types as every asset could have a different legal background based on the license the modder bought it with and then whatever modifications they did on it. Some licenses are not transferrable or they cannot be monetized etc.
But for that to even remotely become a “plan” there would have to be some form of a closer relationship between Funcom and modders as we don’t even have a “creator program” like the youtubers have or anything really.
Way back when the game was in early access / initial release they did have such plans to create some process under which Funcom could implement some mods into the game and compensate the modders, but that never became a thing and they just forgot about it. That would still mostly apply to features and code though that are created by the modder, it would still be complicated with mods containing art assets like the decoration mod mentioned.
That was a bit different Funcom commissioned Snowhunter to create those dungeons, so it was basically just hiring the modder as an external contractor (he actually has a small company for it) and the assets used to assemble those etc. were already Funcoms property or had a clear legal background that covered their usage.
If you had an advanced workbench that was smaller or used less mats than the base game bench, you would hear no end of complaints of Pay-to-Win from the PvP community.
As far as unarmed goes, you can get the Brawler Handwraps from a journey. The handwraps don’t make your punches hit any harder, but they do provide a bit of armor over bare hands.
Totally agree that more functional items would make base building feel deeper instead of just decorative. Some of the top mods already show what’s possible with advanced benches, automation, and meaningful crafting loops. Pulling even a few of those ideas into vanilla would add long-term replay value and give players more reasons to experiment instead of just rushing progression.
