simply changing the purge system to an automatic purge every two weeks would take care of refresh bases and building spam for all of those that complain endlessly about building. I personally love playing on a full server though…where it is filled with player creations
I remember submitting a question about the purge for one of the dev livestreams, and their answer was basically that it wasn’t really meant to clean up bases – that’s what the decay is for – but rather to offer additional endgame challenge.
No offense, but I really don’t think that an automatic purge every two weeks would be a good idea, because then people who don’t have clanmates wouldn’t be able to take a few days off, because of a scheduled purge.
An upkeep system would solve the problem of people refreshing their bases without playing actively, but I don’t have high hopes of that being implemented.
Well, when they first talked about the Purge sweeping a server, I expected something like this:

I pictured a massive army literally moving from one major city across the server “purging” all who had not surrendered or given allegiance to that faction. An army so massive that it would take a ‘miracle’ to survive (run and hide as opposed to resist and die).
But I guess a few waves of ‘bandits’ is all that the game engine can handle.
(it could have been glorious)
Yeah i thought the same, then my first purge came and it was some starving exiles…
I mean, i had a lot of fish to share but they choose violence… sadly for them, they were no match for a couple thralls…
Disappointing, to say the least, but that was in the desert, after i moved north purges were something else, until most of them were just rocknoses… annoying.
Try building outside noob river if you want some hard purges.
The purge system is one of the few game mechanics that works correctly, leave it alone please. If your getting purge spawns inside your base that’s on you.
Since day one of the purge the Devs said this could happen if you build your little bases on top of needle spires. Yet people continue to whine about it anyway.
I’m sorry my post wasn’t more clear. I was trying to communicate the expectation of a large scale purge (the sheer numbers and going server wide) instead of a few waves at a specific player/base. I did not intend for my post to refer to difficulty, though I can see how you might interpret it that way.
The purge I wanted:
Sadly the maelstrom became a cosmetic filter that lasts 15min due to forum whiners. Another awesome feature ruined.
Yeah, it’d be cool if the storm swept across the entire Isle of Siptah map (starting at a random edge of the map and moved either horizontally or vertically or even diagonally) spawning random monsters with each lightning strike. Like a ‘run, but you can’t hide’ (metaphorically speaking).
A solo player would literally have 2 weeks to take off lol… If you can’t find time to log in and play once every 2 weeks, you aren’t playing are you?
The purge system does not nearly work as it should…Purges WILL from time to time spawn in a base with accessible paths…Purges WILL bug out and simply not spawn, Purges will begin and end as soon as it begins, That said I like the purge system. Gives me something to do…I do miss the days when purge thralls meant a little more than they do now but I’m ok with it. As for changing purges well I wouldn’t mind one bit getting a and having to defend an automatic purge every so often. Many people simply refresh…i also don’t have an issue with that but all I see is crying in the forums…while decay is a decent system this would quite literally force a player to be active once every few weeks or give up on those precious pixels.
I probably misinterpreted what you were trying to say. It sounded like “you’ll get one every two weeks no matter what you do”. In other words, if you had one on February 7th, the next one will be on February 21st. If that’s not so, then fine.
If that is what you meant, though, then I stand by what I said: it messes with your ability to take a few days off. Sure, you can take up to two weeks but only if you schedule your vacations around a bloody video game. “No, honey, we can’t stay there 5 days, it has to be no more than 4. You see, I had a purge in Conan Exiles exactly 2 weeks before that date.”
This would create a situation like Rust, where everything becomes much faster-paced. But Conan farming, building, etc. is much, much deeper and more time-consuming than Rust. If you are in a large clan, fine, you farm up really hard day 1-2, build your godawful castles, then run around being dicks. But if you’re solo or in a small group, then you either lose everything just as you’re getting settled (which already happens when the aforementioned clans start running around), or you are content with little t2 houses (which already happens when the clans start running around and the little guys decide the only option is to hide).
In other words, the current raid situation on most PVP servers already accomplishes what a 2-week wipe would accomplish for everyone except the alpha clans, and they are the ones that would be the least affected by a 2-week wipe.
Not a wipe. A purge…if you can’t defend a purge solo…you’re doing something very very wrong.
Then it wouldn’t help with the refresh bases and building spam, since thralls can usually fight off a purge, and it would probably get stuck on some foundation web anyway.
I absolutely mean a mandatory purge every 2 weeks… If you get one on your own the counter would reset…if you just log in to refresh and never build a purge then in 2 weeks you’re gonna get one anyway…if you aren’t playing and don’t defend then yeah your base will get wiped by the purge… If you can’t find time to play, well mate you didn’t play anyway
Oh, okay, so it’s not strictly calendar-based and you can make it happen earlier. See, I was hoping I was missing something and that detail was what I was missing. Put that way, it doesn’t sound bad, really. It would be even better if they implemented a mechanism in Exiled Lands, similar to what’s coming on Siptah, for filling your purge meter faster.
You can can configure the purge so that it only happens if you’re online.
Only on private servers.
Theres a youtube video where someone tested the purge after using various building scenarios, and its very informative.
Keeping the purge from spawning inside your base is quite simple actually.
The problem is, people ignore the dynamics because they want to have “clever” builds that are not grounded even though they think they are.
What you and the AI think are ‘accessible paths’ may not be the same thing.
I have played this game since EA day 1 and since the purge roll out I have NEVER had any purge spawn inside my base. So I am speaking from experience, not just disagreement.
While I totally agree that they need to do something about the “log in refresh, log out crowd”, using the purge is not the answer.
Sigh…ive played this game from day 1. I know all about purges since they came into the game…while don’t have that issue myself on my primary base I’ve had it in several and seen many other bases have it many many times…all on the ground
