Question regarding the line between PVP traps and exploiting game mechanics.

For example:

Heat traps. Exploit or acceptable strategy?

Players standing on your roof, removing and replacing roof tile to entrap them - Acceptable or against the rules?

Shooting gas arrows at bases in PVEC to gas players inside/provoke a fight - acceptable?

And last but not least, your basic PVP trap pyramids placed specifically for battle, some people are claimimg they’re a violation of building rules.

Thoughts?

Not part of FC but vet player but here are my takes

Heat Traps. They are fine as a heat increasing effect (since that is their point) HOWEVER the number needed makes the server lag and therefore need to be avoided due to this problem which is a ToS issue.

Players removing their own building pieces. Not ToS issue and cannot be enforced on anyways. Your individual kit loss is not FC’s problem. Be wary of your surroundings especially when scouting or raiding another person’s base.

Gas arrows and PVE-C. The gas goes beyond the building and therefore this isn’t a ToS but a bug. Please post a bug report and hopefully FC dev team agrees and changes this. But definitely not a ToS.

Now War Pyramids. The trap isn’t the issue with war pyramids. It’s that they serve no purpose other than that and that can be considered a building violation and definitely can be compounded with folks typically building more than just one in key areas (like Shattered Springs or Sinkhole) . Since the pyramid has not true function outside of a security spot to retreat to in PVP, this can be considered a ToS violation.

Now if you make your trap with table’s in it and us the tables for crafting i say the trap becomes a trap base and cant be considered a non purpose building… but that jus a loophole

Sure…but is it worth getting kicked for 1-2 weeks? The thing is that there isn’t a trial, there is no court or jury that you can explain that. Your build, when reported on, will be judged by someone that isn’t from the server and probably not to keen on all the crap they see day in and day out. Loophole at your own risk.

I always point out that you need to build with the intent of server health in mind on officials. You can go grand but where you go grand is important. I truly believe many of my larger and ornate builds remain because I put them in odd locations where someone has to work at getting to and away from the normal game routine. I try to make it a treat to find. This is of course PVE. Now in PVP, I do the exact opposite.

PVP pyramids meant for battle are typically (well, hopefully) constructed and removed the same day. Basically, a FOB. Constructing one next to an enemy base and leaving it there forever and ever, I could see the issue.

Heat traps don’t require that many fireplaces really. Small enough space you only need two or 3. The question there is the actual use of heat (or any temperature/environment change) as a weapon being an “exploit of game mechanics” as some would suggest.

Well, Black Ice Weapons have the Frostbite effect, other types of trap in the game exist, so to me it just looks like ingenuity :catnobanana:

I’m with @erjoh here about heat traps. It’s not so much the utilization of the heat trap itself but the drain on the server. I avoid using these because of it.

Same agreement here regarding trapping players. You can bomb yourself out or pull your bracelet/summon corpse.

Getting gassed on either PVP or PVE-C is pretty much just an accepted function of those game modes. I’m not sure if it is intended so again Erjoh’s advice on this is great. As for ToC? Well, there’s many ways to mitigate it. Wear a gas mask online or offline or, simply don’t keep anything on you when you log off.

This is where I don’t agree. War pyramids serve 3 functions in current meta play: a quick reprieve from death, a way to trap dumb players who follow and a means of storing loot/kits. Funcom has also not clarified their viewpoint on war pyramids. Because they have a function they are not a ToC violation at this time. War pyramids are a small footprint and Funcom HAS communicated on many occasions that we may have multiple buildings on a server.
