Worth a shot.

I’ve pinned the post for you, now please, stop ‘bumping.’ For the record ‘bumping’ posts without adding anything new to the discussion is against forum guidelines. Okay. Now that that’s out of the way have fun out there!
Apologies. I think pinning it is a great idea, thank you
You’re welcome!
Just want to make sure, this Nvidia fix is only for the new engine and there’s absolutely no way to force the old engine to use the Nvidia card?
Reason I ask is I tried the "0x00000011 (Autodesk Showcase, Monster Hunter Online, etc…) " with AO’s old engine and it still doesn’t recognize my Nvidia 1070 on this laptop.
I’d rather not use the new engine with all the issues I keep hearing with it. A lot of org mates have tried using it as well and keep having a bad time with it, especially trying to dual log. I’d like to use it just to do solo content such as Mitaar to farm things for alts/org mates. With the old engine at low settings, I get max 9 FPS in Mitaar just standing there… in battle it’s worse. By default since 2008 or 2009 I have used the T&L HAL setting:

For reference of what changes I have done according to this thread:
My card:

So your laptop has a graphics chip but it’s not recognising it? I have heard problems with AO and laptops.
I’m not 100% sure if you can do it, but try googling if you can go into the BIOS settings of your laptop and disable the intel intergrated graphics.
Darn, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go into the BIOS.
I also don’t want to disable the intel graphics as I do not want to have a hot laptop all the time, especially when I’m just browsing the web.
I guess I’ll have to give in and install the clanky engine…
Hmm … at least on Nvidia - as soon as I turn on any Antialiasing - all the text (even in UI elements) becomes very fuzzy …
Yeah experiment with the different types of anti aliasing.
For me supersampling works almost perfect except the planet map is blurry but goes normal as soon as you scroll/move/drag it from the locked position. It can be annoying but I can live with it.
Ok looked back into this after a few years of struggling. Had a look around for any new updates and there actually was!

As has been said DGVoodoo seemed to be the best solution for AO old engine not using nvidia gfx cards on modern laptops. However some of us experienced instant crashing. Someone brought this up on the dgvoodoo forums february 2020 and they fixed it. You need the latest version 2.63.1, then download the extra file linked in that thread and replace the .dlls
I can now finally use OPs and Caloss’s methods for improving AO!
Thanks to the community and Dege!
Thank you for sharing this. Very helpful
