There was a post about this in 2019. Looks like it was never ‘fixed’. Apparently this can be caused by “Pieces built on pillars or slightly overlapping terrain may randomly lose stability and take damage, even in single-player.”
This is not fun running around my place, every day, to see if there’s a piece that’s damaged. …just repaired a fence sitting on a Sandstone Foundation; fence on either side of it was just fine.
Is it only anticlimb related building pieces?
It was the Floatsam Fence and Sandstone Fence pieces. Multiple pieces in random areas.
Ok, so these pieces cause damage to players to prevent climbing. The result of taking damage also damages the fences, also possibly a system limitation. Sometimes simply touching them causes it. You can test it by attempting to climb those pieces and see yourself taking damage, bring out your repair hammer and see that it also took damage.
Whether it is intended on PVE has always been questionable but it may be a system limitation.
It very well has been you accidentally touching them. Or other players touching/climbing your base.
Well…that sucks because I like to use them as “railing”; safety first!
I use them all the time as railing. They take some damage, but no where near destabilizing in most cases. Irritating only when repair hammer is in use.
Exactly, I usually do a repair run every few days.
