My biggest problem with this game that had so much potential was all of the exploits I’ve witnessed throughout the life of the game. The biggest one being undermeshing. At this point in the game the only way to battle undermeshers is to cheat and undermesh yourself. I’ve tried to do the right thing and report them to the developer’s but unless I provide evidence of the accusations then those cheats will continue to destroy real players with no fear of being attacked. Why are these exploits still happening for a game that could very well have become a leading survival game.
One solution here is to find a solid private server with active admins (or host your own).
Undermeshing isn’t going to go away, sadly. Not fully. The real answer is active humans who deal with the jerks who do this stuff quickly and liberal use of the banhammer.
As an engineer, I usually look at things like this and remember the old adage:
"There is a race between software developers and the universe.
Software devs to make idiot-proof software, and the universe to make a better idiot.
So far, the universe is winning."
Which is why many of the latest updates have included measures to crack down on it.
No. Don’t do that.
If you know how to cheat and undermesh then provide the exact details of how to them via exploit hunters instead of this generic cry for help post in general discussion. If they know how it happens, they can find a way to fix it easier. But it’s not an instant cure, they still need to implement the fix. They’re trying to stop the source of the problems, not waste their time hunting down each individual cheater.
Ehhh…that line is on every single update, and its been there for about 3 years. They clearly dont understand the root cause of how to do it, otherwise we would have seen a fix.
Except there isn’t one single cause, people keep finding new ways to do it when the old ways are patched. It’s a constant whack-a-mole of it.
Oh I know. Weve been reporting them for the same 3 year period as we find them. But its funny, more of the recent ones seem to be consistent on what you use to do it.
Why though, like how hard would it be to program it so if you go under the mesh it just insta kills you and deletes your inventory, I wouldn’t imagine it would be that hard and would stop the undermeshers in their tracks.
If I had a dime for every time someone implied programming something shouldn’t be hard, I would be rich enough to retire from programming ![]()
granted I am no programmer but they already have areas that do damage to players how hard would it to put that under the mesh and have it do like a billion damage a tick or some ridiculous number, In rust (I know this isn’t rust) but in rust they have it so if you go under the map it instant kills you, again I am no programmer it just doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to do.
Funcom have been working on it for some months now but not yet ready to be released. You can see the new settings related to it in the files.
Than stop saying something is easy when you don’t have any experience in the field.
As has been talked about dozens of times, they have an anti-undermesh mechanic that has been going through testing on testlive for several months, but isn’t ready to be moved over to live due to false positives.
Players can help by testing this out on testlive and reporting their findings.
I didn’t say I had no experience I just said wasn’t a programmer.
I know how to build things I dont consider my self a construction worker either.
I know how to write I dont consider my self an author.
Just because a person is not a thing does not mean they have no experience in said field.
There is only 1 post in this thread talking about …TIL 1 is a dozen.
That is good to know, I will look in to it.
I made an accidental discovery on testlive that makes me think they are working on a way to implement this. My guess is that one of the more difficult things about it is not punishing the guilty, but making sure that the innocent are not punished. My discovery was an innocent one. I don’t have a clue how to undermesh on purpose without enabling admin and going into ghost mode. If they manage to implement such a mechanic, especially if it will be accompanied with an auto-ban, they need to be sure that someone above the mesh doesn’t get unfairly punished due to a glitchy texture or a miscommunication between server/client, etc.
I posted my reply before I read your post. I thought they were working on it due to the one bug I found.
I’m far from programming, but I can imagine one possible solution:
What about drawing a single, constant big green wall under the terrain all over the whole map that slightly follows the shape the terrain above? And this underlying wall would be connected to the existing ones, so no holes in it to cheese through.
Just a thought.
You can imagine number of “castles” curently created under green wall. Maybe dev fix this one day same at drawn bridge mesh method.
Reason 1. Gods will be back…
my reason to op would be that sp is still having issues: meshing building pieces, stability issues, triple spawning builds that lead to corrupted data making it so frustrating that i GOTTA play online in someones server. every few months i start over to find new workarounds because sometimes they change w updates. my threads about this always die so i guess its a personal problem.
TIL there’s only one thread on the whole forum and the innumerable screams of others about it aren’t real
Okay, then I’ll be the a-hole who says what @Multigun was too polite to say himself: just because you know how to write, doesn’t mean that you’re qualified to give advice to Stephen King.
Obligatory xkcd:

That is about the dumbest thing I have heard, So because I am not an actor I cant critique a film and how well acted it was? I am not a chef so I am not aloud to say a restaurant has good or bad food? I am not a politician should I not give my politician’s advice or my opinions?..I could go on with this list.
