My opinion is people need to grow up and not be holes. But letting them continue to be that way without accountability ISN’T how they learn not to be.
As I’ve said, my father was a marine corp drill instruction, I was 9 or so when I learned the banned words; see George Carlin, weren’t adult conversational. So to me using the words in a conversation isn’t a thing. I’m not going to clutch my pearls over an F bomb or 12. If it wasn’t for that brain to fingers filter my mouth does not have, my posts would be full of .
But dropping an F bomb is not the same as making accusation regarding animals. I may like to imply things, but that is chatter, purely meant to throw people off their game, like in any sport.
“Hey, did your mom have to changer her name when she married your dad”?
“Just asking a question”.
Like polite conversation it isn’t the words that are the issue, it’s how they are used.
100%, thats exactly why those people do that stuff, to get attention and to get a reaction from people. We are the game to them.
For me, I ask why? Say in a perfect world, they get banned, which is hard to prove when using names or words in chat due to the fact its impossible to prove (without people accusing the reporter of faking the screenshots)
That banned person then goes and spends $2 and gets another copy and does it again.
The only way to win against people like that is to not react. Dont give them what they want.
Funny you quote that line to start arguing with me. Are you for slavery or something? Or are you trying to say what we all know, that there are still people in the sh*thole third world who practice slavery? I tend not to listen to the opinions of those that participate in slavery. Dont forget, we are in the time that has the most slaves around the world then any other time. Still makes it bad, and still makes many decent people against it. But what can you or I do against dictators in third world countries who have slaves? Nothing.
What are racist words? Things you will hear and see online. Wrong bud.
Mmhmm. And what are those words? Are they things you see and read online?
Same issue with me. My clan often leaves a fighter or bearer at each others camps and of course we all have some of the same ones. So we decided to just add initials to each one so we knew we were taking the correct one. I had one something “stinkfinger” and just tried to add initials and it wouldn’t accept it. I’m not a coder, but I think it would be fairly simple if the name is in the system already to allow it. oh well
And this has what to do with the topic in any way, make, shape, or form?
Which would be a ToS violation.
Let me explain; because for some ungodly reason I have to explain simple things to you. Just because some one says something you don’t like that doesn’t make it a ToS offense. Using racist words is.
Why is that so hard for you to comprehend?
Indeed. But we can’t control how others act. We can control how we react though. Relying upon higher authorites for everything is not very good. Dealing with a few ass hats in a chat is as simple as clicking a button. People who can’t handle that are screwed.
The solution here would be to allow people to opt out of censor filters. Have them turned on by default and if someone use a no-no word for a thrall/pet/whatever it’ll show up as “*******” to everyone who has the filter turned on.
Oh yes, you see how blocking me has changed how I act
Blocking someone teaches them nothing, they are just going to set there and run you down as some panty wasted, white toast, milk sop; I’m 64
When some one blocks me do you honestly think I blame me?
You know the first post I had pulled on here? “put some brine on that booboo”.
I know I’m sardonic and abrasive, can be real condescending, but there are lines I wont cross. Now if some one clearly violates a chat TOC I think you are obligated to report them.
An ages old effective punishment for violating social norms was banishment. Where do you think ban comes from?
Now from what I’ve read banishment was a public event, and the reason for the banishment was clearly stated so everyone that witnessed learned from the example, and told the story.
It works though. If someone is toxic and spewing racist words, or sexual acts or anything like that, muting them does exactly what you want - it stops you from seeing that language, which is the issue.
You will NEVER stop that person from acting like that, especially in a game. If you think banning them, or suspending them will change that behaviour, your going to be extremely disappointed.
Society needs to change before people will change, and thats not happening for quite a while.
Thank you for doing what you are incapable of, besides answering questions, admitting to be wrong.
There is a way to end toxic chat by muting, and like it was suggested above, an option to turn on or off “foul language” and other bad words. It solves the problem rather easily, in comparison to trying to change every single person in the world.
I think what he means is they’re going to continue being toxic whether you can see it or not. Such people can still have an effect on the background conversation taking place in chat, which I’m sure anyone who’s played an MMO has witnessed for themselves. It’s a fair point, but IMO not a particularly weighty one.
Frankly, I think we’d all be a lot better off if filters in general were rolled back to when they just asterisked out the basic sailor talk and people relearned how to grow a thicker skin. If someone is being particularly egregious, then sure, that might require a mod or server admin or whatever to step in. But for the most part people just need to remember how to not take offense again.
