I am not against you, I am against the idea of this illuminating character thing. Extremely against (and against almost every “feature” that was added with and after 2.0, but that’s an other topic…).
The real bottom line is: while everyone has fun in different ways, there are already options to counter the dark. No need for this illumination, which does NOT fit into this game. Or make it toggleable at least.
Heck, even if the game would not have a gazillion torches/armor/weapons/hokuspokus BS, you still can turn the brightness of your monitor up (followed by your “turn the monitor off” logic), and/or the gamma ingame.
You’re the nicest person on the forums aren’t you?
Everyone creates a character, multiple users makes it characters.
W/e not here to discus grammar, we’re not all English native speakers to perfection here.
Stay on topic.
Your answer doesn’t make any sense to me, the spell needs to be fixed but having this light emitting character is not the solution before the fix. Its a misplaced feature which happens to break immersion for players and should never have seen the “Light of day” in my opinion.
The lighy doesnt bother me. But atvthe same time, night time should be more dangerois in the wild. It should have more aggressive prowlers, otherwise it is purely aesthetic. Make spawns that only ocvur at night and last equal to night time timer befpre they despawn.
Let’s dissect this image a bit. This is from just north of the Mounds of the Dead. In the screenshot is an enemy, with the ‘glow’ people are calling… you can only tell there is an enemy present because they have a star metal weapon.
If I was not in creative mode, I would have been easily jumped by that enemy before I saw them.
What does this ‘glow’ actually achieve? Like I said earlier in the thread, it simulates visually (in a VIDEO game) the senses the game does NOT provide. Texture, Smell, Taste, Humidity, Air Pressure, Static, Balance, Spatial Awareness, etc. All these things people use in real life to navigate even moonless nights and dark rooms are missing when you just have a black screen.
I don’t know about you but I don’t suddenly lose those senses when it gets dark. You do lose the ability to discern objects and people from a even a short distance away. Which if you look in the screenshot above, that enemy could be in the same room in a building and you’d still be unable to see them sans the star metal weapon.
If I were to fight the cimmerian, yes I’d be able to see them in melee. Just as if you were in knife fighting range you’d be able to tell what your opponent is doing in that amount of proximity (as the scar on my leg can attest to).
All this ‘glow’ does is make it so you can see your character (your character should know what they are doing where their legs are going and what their arms are doing) as you don’t lose spatial awareness just because you can’t see. Blindness even doesn’t make it so you’re crippled to the point where you’re moving around randomly, darkness in varying levels won’t either. As well as the area they can interact with immediately. As you can still hear sounds, feel vibrations, feel the air move as someone moves around and other subconscious information that gives you some sense when something is happening in your immediate vicinity.
Could this be done a different way? Sure, but this is Conan Exiles and the focus is on killing and looting and conquering, not immersive story telling. It gets the job done.
There shouldn’t be arguments between players about this.
Developer always say in their live streams, to leave comments and that they read them.
But if that was true then stamina change would have never happened and character glow would be an option.
That the guy who have to wait 20 minutes everytime nights happens, can turn on night light and players who dont like, can enjoy the night time, the way it was before.
I don’t like it at all. I know, if I didn’t bring food, I have to make it. Dont have some magical thing just happen to feed me. If it gets dark, I know I need to bring or make torch.
Not just be able to see at night almost like I have permanent night vision potion.
Also like I read, someone said, its full moon every night.
Interesting, I reported the cave issue as a bug but didn’t correlate that with the lighting changes in general they made with characters. I play on a Series X these days, and also noticed that you’d take a serious framerate hit at the same time the lighting goes sideways. Hopefully it’s something they address.
If they made the “wisp” less … annoying (I guess that’s the word to use) then I think it would be fine. Just have it as a stationary light source that you can summon and moves with you at a fixed relative position, not randomly zooming around all over the place.
and soon your already nearly-invincible thrall will just be able to stand back up after a few seconds if by some miracle it does get killed… no risk, no stakes, no challenge
This is such an intellectually void counterargument. All videogames are “games”, doesn’t mean they need to be diluted to appease people who can do everything they want in creative/admin mode without ruining the experience for people who enjoy genres for what they are.
Chess is a game, but no one would take you seriously if you demanded every piece be able to have the queen’s moveset because “I don’t have time to play someone with the original moveset. I just want to play Chess for leisure”. It’s ridiculous.
No one asked for the queen moveset on every p@wn. They asked not to play in a sensory depravation chamber where they’re not even allowed to touch the pieces or board to tell where everything is.
It’s scary in the night don’t you know. It does not matter that in Conan Exiles nothing changes in the dark, enemies stand where they stood, resources are in the same spots. But it’s still scary
You used a screenshot made in the open field and made up some nonsense about senses.
Go to Sepermeru and see the walls and houses illuminate around you like you had a LED flashlight with you.
Or go to the forest where trees start to glow once you get near them.
It looks like absolute garbage, and maybe that’s why you don’t have it in other games.
