On a personal level, this one prefers it as is.
Dark power requires sacrifice. In this case, the Player’s time and the Character’s ability to act.

It is miserable and repetitive to farm.
As it should be, a wretched process for a wretched act.

However…
An admin toggle to remove that may be utile.

Yeah I’m going to have to go with the ‘it’s fine’ sentiment on this one. It should be dark, gritty and unpleasant - we as players are thoroughly desensitized to mass murder already, so the only way to give it some weight is to make it cost our most precious resource: time.

I don’t care about the length, I just want it to match the animation… cuz it’s annoying the hell out of me
If they want me to stand there and to the Titanic with the knife for half an hour to get a few drops of blood then fair enough… but once I put the darn knife down and the animation finishes I want the ritual to be over and not get error messages like “A ritual is still in progress” upon trying to interact with the bench… when I KNOW I was the one doing the darn ritual and I know it’s done…

Sacrificial blood is very powerful for what its used for. I find it okay if the tradeoff is mind numbing monotony.

Mind-numbing monotony is good bottleneck that prevents that not everyone has infinite lightning storm for example. Or corpse summons.

I find it very disagreeable that modern players and people just assume to get everything for free, straight away.

Sure, I can understand that - that said, I don’t know if there’s any rule that says a ritual ends when you can move again
Ah, just gaslighting really - can’t say I’ve automated it to the point mentioned here (I do have a murderslaughtersacrifice facility just outside Sepermeru tho), but I’ll take your word for it there’s a mismatch between animation length and ritual duration.

I was giggling the entire time juicing the population of Asgard…I’m not sure what that says about me. c;

The animation definitely does stick you in place doing nothing for the last 3 - 5 seconds. And why not have an improved sacrifce table. It would look neat, a round stone platform 3 sacrificial tables angled on it, a few torches to set off that dark sacrificial ritual visual at night. Even neater with a thrall at each, sacrificing those poor poor souls as you drag them in.

I would argue that it’s the player having to do the deed, and doing so in such a visceral and in-your-face fashion, that provides the grittiness and really brings home what you’re doing. Abstracting that away by having a thrall do it or letting you leave after dumping the body on the altar devalues that a lot in my book. You’re of course welcome to disagree

Also - sorcerers performing those rites need to perform them exactly and to the finest detail. Not something that they’d let their slave thralls do in many cases lest they get sucked off to the old ones realm to be the playthings of cthulu and friends.

Talking to people I’m leaning more toward the mass sacrifice idea. Like be able to do 5 at once but you need a sorcerer thrall OR Player for each extra slot.

Lore wise (which is what this game follows very strictly) - failure is not just whoops the sacrifice died, it would be “whoops my base got sucked into hell” though (at least in some cases).

That would be cool. If you fail on your thrall harvest the blood roll, the tentacles in the sky open above your base and the storm drops in (which can damage your base).

I’d be for that.

That is perfect!
Chance of failure when performed by the heavily concussed thrall.
That failure spawns hostile monsters like the Blood Moon Beast, a swarm of MiGo, creates a hostile lightning storm or one time Yog effluence shower, or something else that both can kill thralls and players, and also damages like a purge.

It’s important to note, the thralls are literally beaten into unconsciousness and then tortured into a pliant state.
If they could perform dark sorcery still… Why not use it on their enslaver?
