A few months back I made a post about low damage from the pet scorpions, and after coming back to play again with a few friends on a server I tried my hand at getting a pet scorpion again hoping they’d been tinkered with after the follower rebalancing.
Unfortunately, scorpions are still doing abysmal damage, but I figured I’d try leveling one up just to see if I was being over dramatic about it. Still, horrid damage, they can hardly defend themselves.
I tested a level 20 scorpion king with 192% bonus strength against a basic rocknose. After that, I got a level 0 cannibal brute with no new equipment, only the iron warhammer and cloth clothes they start with, and had that fight a basic rocknose. The only difference between the two fights was that the brute took a bit of damage, but the time to kill was basically the same.
I know pets are already in a relatively bad spot right now but at least most others offer something beneficial; wolves can sunder / bleed, cats knock down / sunder & bleed, sand reapers poison like crazy, etc… Scorpions, however, don’t really bring anything to the table, their attacks don’t knock down anything except the tail spin, which doesn’t do much. If the scorpion’s role isn’t supposed to be damage then I’m failing to see what they’re supposed to excel at. The only thing I’m noticing from scorpions is they have high armor, but why not get a greater rocknose that’s got more armor growth, is less intrusive, knocks down constantly, and does decent damage?
On top of that most pets are super easy to acquire, just pick up a baby and bring it home to raise, but you need to go through the effort of doing a mini dungeon with 2 bosses just for a chance to get some scorpion pets. Even if pets do need some overhaul to be truly useful, I would love just a buff to the scorpion’s damage to make them worth the time leveling up.
Aside from scorpions, Frost Giants still pull from the human perk pool so they’re getting hindering perks (which could be intentional I suppose) and still receiving accuracy perks despite previous patch notes saying they shouldn’t, I even got deadeye on one of my Frost Giants. So unless my Frost Giant plans on picking up archery, I don’t think I need him to get reduced strength to buff accuracy.
