Serious question on stae of official economies

Economy was brought up by Alex as something in discussion phase during dev meetings. Back ground, i play various board games, am in the midst of designing one (very much trying to emulate Conan Exiles mechanics). that being said, the best games balance the economy to be a way to dictate strategy without destroying the engine building in most board games. I feel games like Conan where there is a society on a server could benefit greatly from the same idea. And lets be honest, Conan’s economy is non existent. But for my data collecting ocd, i wanted to poll on a few things to see how much people really have stored just because…

When thinking of a Vault, it is usually equla to about 10 chests.

Legendary Weapons (Epic Flawless)Storage:

  • I have <1 Vault of Legendary Weapons
  • I have 1 Vault Chests of Legendary Weapons
  • I have 2-5 Vaults of Legendary Weapons
  • I have > 5 Vaults of Legendary Weapons

0 voters

For Armor (Legendary/Epic Flawless)

  • I have <1 Vault of High End Armor
  • I have 1 Vault of High End Armor
  • I have 2-5 Vaults of High End Armor
  • I have > 5 Vaults of High End Armor

0 voters

For Base Building (T3 Mats,Pieces, Benches, Crafters, Fighters)

  • I have <1 Vault of Building Mats
  • I have 1 Vault of Building Mats
  • I have 2-5 Vaults of Building Mats
  • I have > 5 Vaults of Building Mats

0 voters

Raid/Defense Mats (Dragon Pwoder, Exp, Treb parts, Arrows orbs):

  • I have <1 Vault of Raid Mats
  • I have 1 Vault of Raid Mats
  • I have 2-5 Vaults of Raid Mats
  • I have > 5 Vaults of Raid Mats

0 voters

Finally, Misc (RAw mats, potions, heals, etc)

  • I have <1 Vault of Misc Mats
  • I have 1 Vault of Misc Mats
  • I have 2-5 Vaults of Misc Mats
  • I have > 5 Vaults ofMisc Mats

0 voters

Is this relevant? With enough time and a hoarding mentality, any one could have full vaults or lots of things any player could pick up. Not spending materials also could attribute to ‘vaults full of stuff’. Time and effort is the only bottleneck and that’s not really covered in this poll.

I think the possible economy changes is how expensive it is to craft things or how the game eats up resources. Or how one t3 building piece is much easier to farm than another, which was a great point. Balancing changes that don’t really look at total wealth, which is what this poll is describing. Wealth generation is fairly linear. You collect something and put it in a box. The only way to control wealth is with caps, which isn’t necessarily an economic change.

It is relevant, as a majority of long time players will not be affected by any change in scarcity of farming values because of the amount of back up stash they have. You could make cost go up to craft, but if i already have vaults of pre-made, will not effect og players, and basically punish new players only. And thus, overtime, the game will fail. the economy is very important for accessibility. Should you be rewarded for playing long term already, yes, but if that is at cost to alienating gamer sot the point of not playing Conan, it hurts the entire long term of the game if more players are leaving than joining.

Caps aren’t the only way to influence the economy. Durability, decay timers and spawn rates are three that already exist in the game.

That said, you’re completely right about this:

The amount of stuff you have at a certain point in time is not a useful metric on its own, without other metrics to put it in context. The best you can get are certain statistical measures, such as mean, median, range, and such, but again, that’s not extremely useful. :man_shrugging:

I think what he meant by economy change probably has more to do with recipes for crafting such as the recently changed hardened steel. You can count black ice building pieces will have a drastic change from what they are now.

The recipes have a direct influence on the time to recover from a raid. If you don’t have a legendary weapon, you can still fight, if you have to cover the whole map gathering materials to repair your black ice walls as opposed to how easy it is to fix or expand black ice fortress withou ever leaving the north now can have a highter impact on your gameplay.

Because it is rather easy tbh on officials. And i am not saying it is a wrong way to play. Just that the economy of the game is seriously borken and tilted to people who havee way more time to play. Again, not those individuals faults that they can. And Alex stated as much, or at least in principal, that the devs take the blame for any broken or imbalanced mechanics, and they are going to try and “fix” as much as possible.

As PvE only I dont have that many spare parts for T3 building… But I have for example >10k harden bricks, probably >40k steel, >5k harden steel, etc.

I just build T3 staff, when I need it. But I have a vault full of fighters and archers and several big chests with T4 working thralls.

Also I dont have that many endgame armors, besides the one I wear and having 2 spare sets for each temp, if I die.
If I place a new thrall, I can craft one… (which is, why I needed leather  )

So I dont have that much pre-made staff… For example I have ~9k steelfire now. I could make a crap load of dragon powder for explosive arrows which I use to farm star metal. But I craft them, when I run out of them…

I have many resources, but not that much pre-made items. Only if I made to much, when upgrading/creating bases. And I have 2 spare maprooms, some elevators and chests

So if a recipe changes, I am also effected by it

Yeah, sorry, I was switching between a few threads about legendaries and this one. The recipes are indeed the core of the economy. But again, even when it comes to mats for builds, caps aren’t “the only way to control wealth”

On a PvP server my mentality is to make what I need and use what I make. I suggest you adopt this philosophy. Having vaults full of mats is just ridiculous in my opinion.

Nothing better then raiding some person who thinks its cool to stock pile 5000 steelfire.

I was not suggesting caps. I was just wondering how much people have stored.
If people have months worth of mats stashed, then changing recipes and harvest amounts will not fix the economy, or at least until the stashes start to drain, which may be years for some clans.

Not you, it was Dysco7.

It looked like Agnus was replying to my reply to Dysco7, but I might be wrong. Damn, these conversations can get confusing sometimes
