One of the first issues I had with online play in Conan is how isolating it feels to play as an individual on a public server even with other players. When you join the world, you typically do not see anyone maybe for hours, and you can forget you’re even playing on a public server. Nothing really reminds you that you are online except for when you encounter another base or another player. In other games, there are global announcements that occur whenever someone joins or exits a server, so that they can be acknowledged and welcomed into the same world with everyone else or understood when they leave. In PvE you all share at least a common cause to work together against the game’s enemies, so it makes sense to share when other people join. however in PvP, it may be important to have those joining to remain anonymous since everyone is potentially an enemy. Another reason to globally announce who is entering is because it makes the world feel livelier that people are interacting with the world and may be expecting friendly collaboration. If someone dies to the Arena Champion for example, a global announcement may indicate they need help getting their items back, and it creates a moment to collaborate. Some food for thought as the online of this game doesn’t promote actual collaboration very well, or make clear opportunities that allow collaboration in a multiplayer setting.
Well in my opinion it’s not a bad idea. In PvP, of course, global notifications can be more of a hindrance than a benefit, because in PvP, every player is perceived as a victim, but on a PvE server, every player is a potential ally, so why not?
Pressing the L key you can see who is online, and when we got our map makers back you can see icons of altars where other players built, so after sometime playing on the server you learn who are your fellow exiles and you can visite their places to use a map room or a teleport, or if the person is online adventure toghter.
Regarding the arena champion for example, i would not like it being annouced to entire server that im doing something in some place, by some reasons: people will come to loot my body, people will camper to loot when i die, people will come to loot the dungeon before me, will atract trolls. I play online games since tibia, and i remember of people wating you to kill a dragon and run to loot it before you can even open its iventory, or to kill you just after the figth.
On conan i even meet players that the main play time consisted into looking for any minimal thing in others buildings they could use to report you and lead to a ban, while they used every type of exploits to take advantage or just for the lols. So in my view it should be like the dark forest paradox. I didnt even build a t3 altar on my base to not announce my precense, so you think but it is in pvp, not necessarily, i play in pve-c and i got raided even there.
