Singleplayer existing save crashes upon clicking 'settings' - With Updates!

Game mode: Single-player
Type of issue: Crash
Server type: PvE
Region: Private/NA
Mods?: Yes
Edition: Steam |

Bug Description:

Upon clicking on the ‘settings’ option in the in-game menu, the game crashes 100% of the time.
Update: Happens with a new game (so it’s not a corrupted save file). Happens in Co-Op mode as well as single-player. Happens even after running “verify file integrity” in Steam.

Steps to reproduce:
Have an existing single-player save game.
Load this save game.
Enjoy the scenery for a moment.
Click ‘escape’ to bring up the menu
Click ‘settings’
Enter a bug report to Funcom because the game crashes the second you hit Settings, no matter if you wandered around for a minute first or not (making sure it wasn’t just a crash related to loading the map).

Steps to Reproduce:

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. Please be as detailed as possible; the more details, the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Load an existing single-player save game using either the ‘continue’ or ‘launch>single player’ options.
  2. Wait a second after loading to make sure the bug isn’t related to the load. Use this time to ponder where the blood dripping from the woman’s feet in the cinematic is coming from.
  3. Press “ESC” to open the menu
  4. Click the “Settings” button
  5. Crash.

The question I have is does it happen on a new save with zero mods loaded. If not, not a game issue. No crashes on my end.

Either mod related or corrupted save.

Solution: Uninstall the mod: Creative

I used a list of mods containing Creative about 2 years ago. It was working fine. I set up my server this morning using the same mod list as before but I found the same issue as the one you encountered. There is a total of 10 mods we both use in our lists. I tested by unticking half of the mods until it works. And I found the buggy one is Creative.

It’s a pretty clumsy way of testing which mod is buggy. But it turns out to be effective. You can try this when you have a similar issue next time. I learned it from setting up a server in Project Zomboid. I hope this might help.

This does, in fact, seem to have fixed the problem.

Weird that it was working a few days ago and (as far as I know) nothing was updated. Oh well.

Thanks, mate
