Social Guidelines: Read Me!

#1

These forums are a place for players to talk about Funcom games, discuss and share knowledge, and engage in role-playing.

In order to maintain the boards and be able to provide feedback, we must reserve the right to enforce certain standards and rules. Please understand this forum is owned and operated by Funcom. All rules are to be enforced by moderators, admins, and staff at their sole discretion.

All Social Guidelines apply to all game categories unless otherwise noted. By using these forums you agree to follow these guidelines in order to maintain a healthy community. Thank you for reading!

BE GOOD TO ONE ANOTHER.

The golden rule is that this should be a positive place for discussion.

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

We welcome open discussion and divergent viewpoints here. We simply ask that you keep your contributions level-headed and without vitriol. If you need to get heated about something, get heated about an idea, not a person. If someone insults another or makes an offensive statement about a group of people, do not respond in kind; just report the post.

Examples:

  • “■■■■ you”
  • “You’re an idiot/moron/[insert directed insult here]”
  • “You obviously don’t speak english/lack reading comprehension/[insert personal attack here]”

CONTENT RULE

Your postsshould include content relevant to the gameplay, story, and worlds of each relevant category. Feel free to speak about lore, characters, and features.

Topics and replies with vague or no context or lacking information will be removed because there is nothing to discuss. This includes bumping a thread for the sake of bumping it, especially if a topic has gone quiet. There’s a reason it went quiet.

Examples:

  • Screenshot with no obvious focus, if even there is one
  • Short, nonsensical posts
  • “I quit” posts
  • “bump /15char”

Do not post any content on the forums containing the following:

  • Inappropriate or offensive content, warez or leaked content or anything else not safe for work
  • Cracks
  • Key generators
  • Console emulators
  • Cheating, hacking, game exploits
  • Threats of violence or harassment, even as a joke
  • Soliciting, begging, auctioning, raffling, selling, advertising, referrals
  • Racism, discrimination
  • Abusive language, including swearing
  • Illicit drugs
  • Religious, political, and other “prone to huge arguments” threads

TROLLING RULE

Trolling is posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant. Trolling is sometimes done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting. Trolls hinder discussion and reflect poorly on this community as a whole; don’t feed them. “Trolling" means that the user misleads or antagonizes others or acts overtly contrarian.

Examples include but are not limited to baiting comments; comments intended to get a rise out another user, harassing users through private messages.

DON’T BE A JERK

Posting of Illegal material, personal information (i.e. “doxxing”), spam threads, and malicious links are prohibited.

Don’t harass anyone, threaten anybody with real-life violence or other actions, encourage sexual misconduct, nor organize a brigade on users or communities.

Personal attacks on race, orientation, and other personal beliefs will not be tolerated and will be taken action against at the discretion of the moderators.

All such posts will be removed and may result in a forum ban.

EXPLOIT DISCUSSION

Do not describe how an exploit works or can be abused. NEVER explain how to perform an exploit publicly.

An exploit is a bug that grants a user an unnatural or an unintended benefit in the game for a character. Meaning, it’s a bug or design error that makes it possible for characters to fight monsters, solve quests, earn money, get items, etc. that normally should be out of that character’s reach or not possible in the first place. Basically, exploiting can be described as cheating.

Exploits and an explanation on how to reproduce the issue should be sent directly to staff or moderators.

There is a mentality that suggests publicly exposing exploits somehow results in getting it fixed faster. Not only is this false, but you are actively causing harm to the game and community by making what could have been a relatively small issue into a problem for everyone.

Posts doing so will be removed on sight and the poster may have action taken against them both on the forum and in-game (where applicable).

ACCUSATION RULE

An accusation against another person’s or organization’s integrity, business practices, etc. is only allowed if the accuser has sufficient evidence. This is to prevent doomsaying, panic, and misinformation.

Any submission or comment that lacks sufficient accusation evidence will be locked or removed with zero tolerance.

Do not engage in “vigilante justice” nor encourage members of the community to do the same. Please do not “name and shame” other users; DM staff if you have an issue with another user or player in the community.

Examples:

  • “Don’t play on this server, the owners are corrupt and stole my money”
  • “This guy scammed me, don’t trade with him”
  • “Let’s make a list of scammers”
  • “Funcom is selling hacks to Russians”

Posting Guidelines

  • Use tags! Read This

  • Post using proper mixed case and punctuation. A single exclamation mark (!) or question mark (?) is enough.
  • Write as if you were speaking directly to another human being. If you have a character-driven reason to write in a certain manner, please only do so in roleplay threads or in threads where it’s otherwise stated as accepted.
  • Use a relevant, specific and descriptive subject for a thread. “I was thinking of something” and “Here’s an idea” are not good topics.
  • Stay on topic. When posting a new thread, make sure it fits into the topic of the forum. When replying to a post, make sure to stay on the topic of the thread you’re posting in.
  • Be constructive and back up your statements. If quoting, make sure to quote all relevant text, and if needed, provide a link to the source.
  • Pay the moderators and other volunteers proper respect. They spend their spare time to assist and improve the community.
  • Be nice, especially to newcomers. Let people become acquainted with the environment and do beginners’ mistakes without patronizing them. Please respect that people may have a different political, religious, philosophical, and cultural background than you.
  • Play fair. Be truthful and respect other people’s privacy. Do not misrepresent or impersonate others.
  • Have fun! That’s why we’re all here. Just remember to have fun with others, not at the expense of others.

Please DO NOT:

  • Flame or insult other members
  • Bypass any filters
  • Abuse or encourage abuse of the flagging system
  • Post personally identifiable information (i.e. name, address, email, phone number, etc.)
  • Bump threads with no additional content
  • Derail a thread’s topic
  • Post links to phishing sites
  • Post spam (i.e. +1, 10char, rickrolls) or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content
  • Repetitively post in the incorrect forum (example: trade requests belong in trading forum)
  • Openly argue with a moderator

Moderation

Breaking the Rules

If you see a post or topic that breaks the forum rules, all you need to do is flag it. You can flag a post from the menu bar next to the “Reply” button in any thread. If a post receives a certain number of flags, it becomes hidden from view. Legitimate violations of the forum rules will result in your account being warned, silenced, or suspended - either temporarily or permanently - depending on the severity of your violation and the discretion of the staff member, admin, or moderator taking action.

The forum rules and associated penalties are subject to change at any time. In order to maintain a fantastic community, we need everyone following the rules and for you to help us help you keep things going smoothly. Thanks for being a part of it

Moderation Inquiries and Disputes

Moderation is not ever a topic to be openly discussed. If you have any questions or feedback on moderation it should be addressed to the community manager ( @Community ) or the specific moderator via private message.

We will only ever discuss warnings, suspensions, and bans with the affected member(s) and not with anyone else. Making posts that question moderation or reposting moderated material is prohibited and will result in suspensions. In turn, we will never openly discuss your account status with anyone else, so if you send us a private message about a warning or suspension, that’s entirely between you and us.

Public or private disrespect, harassment, and/or disparaging comments toward moderators and staff will not be tolerated on the forums and violators will receive suspensions depending on severity. Extreme cases may result in immediate and irreversible bans.

Circumventing Suspensions

Nobody likes having action taken against them, and sometimes people make a secondary/alt account to bypass a suspension and start posting about it. Please don’t do this. Any account seen doing this will be permanently banned on sight, and may result in additional actions against the original poster.

If you legitimately feel that the actions taken against you were in the wrong, please contact us at http://help.funcom.com/, our official Customer Service page. This will be a better way to contact us that will not risk lengthening your suspension or having your account permanently banned.
