Again, it is not a problem that occurs because of “my computer”.
This is a known problem games face in multiple instances. There is even a line in my own post that says it occurs in a fresh install.
I also mentioned it is the same problem that occured in other games for the same reason, and they were FIXED BY THE DEVS in subsequent patches, like the most recently in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Thank you for taking the time to submit these issues to us. If you have any bugs to report, please reach out to our support team. Thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!
FIXES
- Fixed Shadowheart not following the party.
- Fixed the sliders for eye makeup and tattoo intensity not working on controller.
- Fixed a potential crash relating to Vulkan. This solves the DEVICE_LOST error upon minimising the game window.
I have mentioned this in other bug reports, it is the same thing, device lost. And it is for the same reason.
And that problem is not a “new” or unknown problem that the industry is not aware it happens.
That is caused because new Windows patches have added a security updated that prevent certain aspects of a program to work when this program is not on focus, specially when it is minimized, to avoid its use as an exploit. Since then, games have faced this particular problem in which if it still “using sound while minimized” even if the actual sound is not playing, the system will block the access to the device and the “old code” will consider it a device lost.
This was particularly a topic in the early times because people were used to have games in the background using another window and playing sound to know if there was something to pay attention at the game. That had to change because windows have tightened the security over minimized and unfocused windows, because malicious software could inject code using sound processing while a window was occulted. They would be able even to start software on the background without the user knowing it. So it was changed, and now there are other venues to use sound in a minimized window, which need to be fixed.
Final Fantasy is another one which back then had to update so it stopped crashing while minimized.
As I said in another thread, I have the game running sometimes for hours and hours, I go do some work, sleep, etc, while leaving the game running testing my server. IT never crashes. But this specific crash is a known one, and have been around, games have adapted to it, and this one hasnt. There is no secret about it.
And particularly incorporating that log in the post tells already “corrupted files” would not trigger that particular crash.
