Every time I try to get back into Conan Exiles I just can’t get myself to play for more then an hour or in some cases pass the server selection screen.
And reason for that is knowing that all those servers are either pretty empty or are filled with random vaults/buildings all over the place.
So it got me thinking wouldn’t it be great to have Seasonal Servers that would reset every 3-4months.
I’m fully aware that they were there in EA, but you need to remember that was early access and those servers had 1month reset, in my opinion 1month for game like this is not enough.
There are several games out there that run Seasonal Server with great success.
They could for example add some sort of rewards for playing on those servers (kinda like conan armor and weapon).
I think it would be worth to try it out with couple of servers at least with different setups per servers and even fully vanilla one with no raid times.
This would personally probably get me back into game because there is always something exciting about starting out fresh where everyone is on the even playing field.
I think the only thing that could tempt me would be if the game itself had seasons, if the weather and the terrain and the animal populations and maybe even the thrall costumes were different every three months.
I mean, imagine if you needed cold-weather gear in the desert and there were ice bridges across some of the jungle waterways, but just for three months? Imagine if the southern half of the snowy area thawed for three months of the year and was no colder than the western tundra is now? Imagine if plants were more common in the fall and flowers in the summer and baby animals in the spring? Imagine if the sandstorm graphics changed to look more like a blizzard three months of the year? Imagine if the NPC capital cities decorated for the holidays?
It probably won’t though. Something very like this was tried, they were called Blitz servers and were a resounding failure. Quite to the surprise of everyone, I think - I’m quite sure the game was actually designed around this experience, which is why there’s relatively little to do “at the top” other than build ever outwards: the idea was that by the time you got there, a wipe would be imminent.
Which is fair enough - you might be right, that it’d make a difference. Personally I wouldn’t be interested, but others might.
This is a neat idea. It could facilitate some interesting migratory gameplay. Though I have a feeling that it’s one of those things that seem cool on paper, but largely gets ignored in practice: people like their bases.
I think it would be worth to try it out they have nothing to lose by doing something like this.
Asked on their stream about Seasonal Server and Reply was "We had them in EA they were called “Blitz” which was kinda expected to get reply like that.
I didn’t play on Blitz servers during EA either because why would I play on server that resets every month when i don’t know anything about the game. Now that the game has been out for awhile Seasonal Servers would bring back people each time new season resets in my opinion, yes they would eventually die out as well that’s the whole point of seasons to bring people back every time new season starts.
The case with Blitz server was that it really didn’t have place in EA game because they would wipe servers to test new stuff right? it’s common sense hence the reason why those servers were not popular. And on top of that they only had 1setting on them that would reset every month, and that’s not even close to Seasonal Server.
