Look, I’m keeping my responses general on the overall complaint about this trend. I even specifically said I wasn’t going to automatically assume you were the same as others. So I’d appreciate us continuing this discussion without personal attacks.

I wish I could find a reference from an artist. They’d received hate for some art because they’d made a thin woman “fat”. So, for reference, they traced the outline of Taylor Swift standing (who is a thin woman) to show what those body lines look like. And then edited the outline to the exaggerated proportions people think represent a thin woman.

Anyway, as for beauty, I don’t have a problem with it. But what I find beautiful, others may not. Many times my favorite characters are not the most attractive (Aveline from Dragon Age 2 to mind who received a fair bit of hate and large number of mods to make her unrecognizable).

What I take issue with is that the design of a character is so crippling to people that they can’t enjoy a game (and the fact that it’s only ever about women characters, sometimes not even the main protagonist: Cora from Mass Effect Andromeda is another that comes to mind here). People are free to like what they like and be attracted to what they like. But the temper tantrums that a character has been “uglified” and that design is somehow a personal affront that destroys their interest in something is…a bit much.
