Good afternoon Exiles,
I come to you today with gifts in the form of tactical knowledge.
As a solo, or lets say 2-4 people, it is best to focus on your stealth. Peace is a fickle resource that may change in the blink of an eye. From over 2000 hours of conan exiles play(almost all solo or duo), I have compiled 5 big tips on the art of stealth.
Tip 1- Keep your head low
Have you ever wandered out to find bases that are big, bulky & easily stompable? The key as a small player or clan is to soak that valuable resource of “peaceful time”. Refrain from immersing yourself in server politics, and act only when indefinitely advantageous.
Tip 2- Be with the shadow
As a small clan or solo, it is not ‘Player vs Player’, but ‘Player vs. Player vs. Awareness’. Most exiles run with tunnel vision to their objective. Legendaries here, thralls there, however in a routine state. I impose, to build and operate in the thought of “How likely would one sniff the roses in this area?”. As in- who might venture off the beaten path and skulk over to my slice of pie.
Tip 3- This going heavily with Tip 2, Attention To Detail is absolutely key. Attention to detail is a key raiding and scouting tool, reversly a powerful deterrent. If i’m a powerful alpha wandering to a quiet area, and see a camp fire, that is a tally. As I look further I spot a small base and see its a dryer factory. Then I find a thrall base. SLOWLY the enemy will use these bread crumbs you leave behind(haphazardly) to hunt you down like a shaleback in the frozen north.
Tip 4- Play your weakness. As Sun Tzu advised, “Appear strong when one is weak. Appear weak as one is strong”. The point being, is if you are doing simple tasks, look simple. If you run around in end game armor and ‘flaunt’ your stats, people will be focused on that stash. Now: my advice, is to wear basic clothes(I prefer cloth, light or transmog). Bring your best tools, and roleplay like you have zero care in the world. This works well for two reasons. if you are killed by an enemy player, you know he is in the area. Respawn, and you could possibly track him. Secondly, the enemy will find less ‘interesting’ items in your lootbag, lowering interest in your activities.
Tip 5- Space: use it or lose it. Finally, learn to build small, tight and efficient. Do you need a 7x10 base up in the hills? Or would a 2x5 structure work well, if you put everyhing extremely tight, stack things & make a usable walkway through it? Yes, it looks like a hardcore labor factory and not very appealing but its small, out of the way and above all things else, efficient.
I hope I have given some of you fellow solo’s out there a few cards up your sleeves for the coming time in the exiled lands. You have only a fraction of the things some of these clans do, and your biggest resource is your stealth. This one resource can help you build up enough to singlehandedly topple any threat… slowly and methodically.
