Seems like that to me, too. As if hostile aliens crashed in Mesoamerica, exterminated the Mayas and inhabited their cities.

Speaking of vaults and devolution - I found it confusing that the vault statues were “devolved”.

Then saw it was mentioned somewhere that the creatures were capable of creating such sculptures even in their devolved state, implying they were incredibly advanced in their higher state and considerably advanced even devolved, but doesn’t seem like it when you encounter them, as they have no tools or weapons (or diplomacy).

If the vaults were built before they devolved, why wouldn’t the vaults have their original features?

As they devolved, wouldn’t they worship the higher, more ideal version of themselves?

My realistic explanation is that it was cheaper not to come up with another 14 separate creature concepts, but if we turn that into lore it could be that as they devolved in isolation, they grew more narcissistic and self-centred - detached from the past and outside world - and adjusted the look of the statues along the way to be more in line with what they know now.

P.S. De-vault-ution :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
