US isn’t censored. On PC anyway.
Yea, yea lol. I’m a console gamer. So I’ll just take my boobs and settle. I don’t need other things flopping around when I’m trying to game.
I tested the free trial, and it feels like someone is trying to make a copy of Conan Exiles, only without Conan.
In other words, there was nothing I could see that would make it better than Conan Exiles, unless you count the fact that you can play as a fat guy. So, as someone who already has Conan Exiles with most DLCs and stuff, I don’t have much reason to even consider jumping into Soulmask instead.
Things might be different if I was coming fresh into the survival game genre. Even then, the theme would probably draw me into Conan Exiles instead. A lot needs to happen between now and full release if Soulmask wants to pull players from Conan Exiles and keep them. (Of course, “a lot” can happen to Conan Exiles too that drives more and more people away.)
I didn’t see too much difference with that game and Conan Exiles either. It seemed pretty similar at least from videos I watched since I don’t play on PC. A lot of games (no matter the genre) attempt to copy others, so I’m not surprised. Some actually pull it off and do it quite well, and occasionally find that certain something that does end up making it better than its source material. It’ll be a wait and see for me with Soulmask especially since I’m on console so it may not even see the light of day on consoles especially if it ends up being a flop.
Speaking in terms of the next Age though, what I would like for Funcom to do is bring in more of a survival feel, retool it if necessary. Conan quickly loses sight that it IS still a survival game at heart but hides itself in what is quickly becoming a run of the mill RPG with building/crafting and SOME survival aspects that depart really fast.
Retool/Add survival back into the game, make it a little more challenging from that side of things. We’ve got hunger and thirst, great! We’ve got temperature that CAN affect you, great! We’ve got some weather/environmental effects like sandstorms, great. They can still keep all that as well as the other stuff I didn’t mention, but how about more. The environments should be just as dangerous as the encounters, sandstorms in desert biomes works well. Why no blizzards in snowy biomes? I swear the game had it at one time. Make it harder to see in those, what lurks in the snow? Snow and rain should cause you to move more sluggish. Storms like lightning and Thunder would be nice. How about some damn water creatures! There are basically ZERO of those. There is one croc in the noob river that jumps out of the water, when it first happened to me I did jump a little (rarely happens to me in games). Water should be dangerous, I’m glad you can no longer swim normally while encumbered. That was such a cheat move. The hunt is a nice but repetitive feature with the werehyena attacking after dark (which is buggy because I’ve been attacked in daylight, lol). Add more nightmare exclusives in biomes. I know some people don’t want vampires/werewolves but it IS fantasy and they do exist in Conan lore. Imagine how that’d play out if bitten. Reminds me a little of Elder Scrolls. Of course cures can always been added. But, having to stay Indoors during daylight or being randomly hunted by NPCs as a werewolf. This game has so many untapped possibilities
Long time ago the Devs made statements on why Age of Sorcery was “Sorcery” and what they were intending to add.
Like that dev guy who plays in the update streams said, if you notice, the Battlepass Backgrounds are meant to tell a story like a flipbook, so are the “Ages”.
Probably there wont be a “age of building”, more like a “Age of Conquest” reflecting the game promotion material, or “Age of Empires” (would be funny) which could be focused on building.
To me, if there is some type of “Age of Getting the game to be a survival sandbox as it should”, I dont care how it is labeled.
I dont really see that “Age of making the game resemble an MMO” as a positive thing for the game.
Like many other development houses, people are making that “SUV market” model of business:
Was talking about it with a content creator for WoW. If WoW remove the Factions, make PvP entirely optional, remove the Instance based progression, and remove the cartoonish style graphics, it is dead in the water, because in their original niche, they are the best, but if they try to be a story rich theme park mmo with more realistic graphics and “peaceful lore” or idyllic paradise lost type of lore, they become a mediocre MMO compared to the others doing that, because they are doing it for longer and have the public already.
Conan Exiles was a unique game and has a lot of lenience because it is unique in its depiction of Conan universe, the survival aspects and etc. If you go around removing each of those things and try to make it a pseudo MMO (like a non massive multiplayer MMO), the statement in itself already shows the problem with it. We dont need another MMO style game, like many. Today even solo games only are copying MMO specific types of systems because they think it is a form of “build and they will come”.
What we need is the game going for its strengths, not expanding its weaknesses.
Good points, KorgFoehammer. It is a survival fantasy game that has lost itself along the way with all the updates and changes Funcom keeps doing. Some work, some do not.
I do think adding vampirism or lycanthropy to the game might be a fun change (I’m sure it too would become stale over time, maybe exciting at first) staying indoors during daylight as a vampire and even having to stay away from your own windows or changing them to walls instead of windows would force players to keep or grind for resources just for that purpose. What if a clanmate opened the door to come inside to store some items and the sunlight hit you causing some of your health to reduce? It certainly would be a different way to play. Sorcery could return with added features too.
Of course, something like this wouldn’t be without its flaws, bugs are commonplace with Funcom. So, I’m sure it would take time to flesh it out and make it work within the game. Maybe even turn thralls into “spawns”. Gotta bring them in during daylight. Also, Might be a cool feature for pvp too, hunting players and ambushing them at night or during a full moon if a were beast.
That would be the exact opposite of what I meant.
Adding a “immortal” feature in a survival game, that phrase itself shows the problem.
Then you have main problem of all popularistic ideas in games: They do not work in the long run because they are meant to be popularistic in nature.
Having a NPC that is a powerful mage that can move planets with theirs minds might make a good NPC, a good “Old God Style Force of Nature”, they make for bad player characters SPECIALLY in games that might involve PvP or multiple player interactions.
WoW is a good example: Power Inflation as popularistic device makes the game require constant correction (Thanos et al, 2019 ). “Our very strength incites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe.” (Vision et al, 2019).
Also, it is a heavily Theme Park risky proposition in itself. In a movie, as NPC stories, that is great. In player terms, this brings misery, toxicity and poor new player experience. It is like the idea of players restricted to classes or racially based restrictions. You might like it, get your AoC mod and be happy. The game should not force it on players.
The idea of having a set path you have to follow is a bad design for this game. And it requires the game to offer content constantly, because it hinders the ability of players to create their own content (you know, that is what a sandbox game is meant to be).
When you get some power inflation gimmick in a sandbox game you are essentially creating a rail to run a ride like a theme park, from where the theme park game takes its name. You are creating a nature of restriction, because as powerful stuff is inflated, you need to take care of conflict, and catastrophe.
If anyone can be what anyone else can be, then you can say “You can do as much that other player can do, whatever choice you made creating your character. It was your course of action playing the game that cause the difference”.
When you add classes, racially based powers, supernatural specific powers, you are adding the “class regret factor”, which will then burden you as the game developer with ensuring that whoever chooses to be one can deal with everything possible to whoever chooses to be the other.
Don’t particularly want vampires or werewolves as player options for Conan. If you want that option, go play ESO or Skyrim. Vampires are incredibly rare in Conan, the instant immortal races become an option for players, they’ll be everywhere and the mystique will be gone.
Conan Exiles feedback spoilers @Funcom_Community
Acredito que será “Age of Vampire”
Lembrando que no filme de Conan tem a vampira feiticeira.
Para quem leu os quadrinhos “A RAINHA AKIVASHA” @Community
Acredito que será a melhor se for bem aproveitada dentro de Conan Exiles
Game had my attention till pyramids/triangles… lol
Kinda stopped looking at game after that. Alot of it looks good, but don’t care for some of designs.
Still waiting on Age of Dinosaurs… or cool DLC Island with them, but them seem to only want store items…
Beautiful game, but crappy PvP.
Soulmask the same. PvP is weird and lots of PvP mechanics got copied from V-Rising…
It’s only about the tiddies and dongs.
bug hunt i hope and purge exploit fixes.
is there nudity, gore, and enslavement?
Nudity = no
Gore = not much (PG-13 levels)
Enslavement = yes (called “deter” when an NPC is near death, you can ‘convince’ them to join your tribe after regaining consciousness)
No idea if mods will change any of that, but that’s how the demo has been playing.
Proably The age of arrakis, but that would be far away from the exiled lands…
Is this a stand up fight sir, or another bug hunt?
Doesn’t have to be “immortal”. No one specifically said immortal. The definition of vampirism is “ the action or practices of a vampire.” Examples of that: drinking blood, aversion to light, ie sunlight, etc. many people in real life believe themselves to be vampires (ridiculous, I know) so they act out the part. Since Conan IS fantasy, and vampires do exist in Conan lore (as one person on here pointed out posting a picture) it would be an interesting feature if done right (but only for a short time, like an event as I did state). I definitely wouldn’t want it to be full time in the game it would get old if permanent. And again, ONLY a suggestion. Not saying add it, or that it’ll ever be a thing.
I just hope they release a new map…
